TL;DR: A spectroscopic study of the neutron-rich nucleus 54Ca using proton knockout reactions involving fast radioactive projectiles highlights the doubly magic nature of 54Ca and provides direct experimental evidence for the onset of a sizable subshell closure at neutron number 34 in isotopes far from stability.

TL;DR: In this paper, the lifetimes of the first excited 2+ states in 62Fe and 64Fe have been measured for the first time using the recoil distance Doppler shift technique, at GANIL, where a 238U beam of 6.5 AMeV impinged on 64Ni target, and the target like products were slowed down by a degrader foil positioned at micrometer distance downstream of the target and identified in the VAMOS spectrometer on an event by event basis.
