Individuals with bipolar disorder commonly report cognitive impairment which is associated with several psychosocial factors (e.g., mood symptoms). Within this study, we investigated the relationship between these psychosocial factors and the perception of cognitive impairment in individuals with bipolar disorder. We measured the relationship between subjective cognitive impairment and mood symptoms, quality of life, age, gender, bipolar disorder subtype, anxiety and sleep disturbance in 140 individuals with bipolar disorder with a mixed linear regression model. Our primary outcome measures were obtained via National Institute of Health (NIH)-sponsored PROMIS cognition scores. Results from the model suggest that both the PROMIS Cognitive Function and Cognitive Function-Abilities scores were significantly negatively correlated with sleep disturbance and depression symptoms (p≤0.05). PROMIS Cognitive Function was also significantly negatively correlated with anxiety (p≤0.05). Limitations of this study include the absence of a healthy control group, limited demographic diversity, and cross-sectional study design. Perceived cognitive impairment in individuals with bipolar disorder is associated with increased sleep disturbance, depression, and anxiety. Future studies with objective cognitive measures combined with PROMIS self-report scores might further clarify the expression of cognitive impairment in bipolar disorder. 

Subjective cognitive impairment and its relationship to sleep impairment, anxiety severity, and depressive symptoms in individuals with bipolar disorder

Objective: To observe the effects of music therapy on negative psychology, sleep, and quality of life in elderly patients recovering from cerebral infarction accompanied by depression and anxiety. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 160 patients with convalescent cerebral infarction diagnosed between December 2022 and December 2023 in the Affiliated Brain Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. Cases from the control group ( n = 76) were treated with conventional rehabilitation training. Meanwhile, the music therapy group ( n = 84) cases were managed with standard and music therapy. Various measures, including polysomnography, the general quality of life questionnaire-74 (GQOL-74), the self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), and the self-rating depression scale (SDS) were collected at baseline (admission) and 4 weeks post-admission. Results: After 4 weeks, the music therapy group exhibited higher GQOL-74 scores, lower SAS scores, and lower SDS scores ( P &lt; 0.001). Furthermore, compared with the control group, the music therapy group had shorter sleep latency, longer sleep duration, higher sleep efficiency, lower wake time, fewer wake times, shorter S1 stage, longer S3 + S4 stage, and longer REM period ( P &lt; 0.001). Conclusions: Music therapy appears to be effective in improving negative psychology, sleep quality, and quality of life in elderly patients with comorbid depression and anxiety during recovery from cerebral infarction. 

Effect of Music Therapy on Negative Psychology, Sleep, and Quality of Life in Elderly Patients Recovering from Cerebral Infarction with Depression and Anxiety: A Retrospective Analysis

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of fine cooperation program of doctor-nurse integration on wound healing, patient???s psychological state and pain degree of patients with chronic wounds. Methods: A total of 100 patients with chronic wounds who were
 treated with conventional wound management from March 2016 to December 2018 were enrolled as a control group, while another 100 patients with chronic wounds who were treated with the fine cooperation program of doctor-nurse integration during January to October 2020 were selected as an observation
 group. Nursing satisfaction, general conditions (waiting time for dressing change, hospitalization time, and wound healing time) and wound healing grade were observed, and the pain degree (scored by the simplified McGill scale) and psychological state [evaluated by Self-rating Depression Scale
 (SDS) and Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS)] were compared between before intervention and on Day 5 of intervention. Results: The nursing satisfaction was higher and the waiting time for dressing change, hospitalization time and wound healing time were shorter in the observation group
 than those in the control group (P<0.05). On Day 5 of intervention, the present pain intensity, Visual Analogue Scale, pain rating index, SDS and SAS scores are seen declined in both groups compared with those before intervention, and they were lower in the observation group than those
 in the control group (P<0.05). The observation group had a higher wound healing grade than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The fine cooperation program of doctor-nurse integration can shorten the waiting time for dressing change and hospitalization time.
