HIMM, a new compact accelerator facility dedicated to carbon cancer therapy, has been designed and is presently under construction. The synchrotron has a compact structure that exhibits a circumference of only 56.2 m. The charge exchange injection (CEI) method is adopted for synchrotron injection with a carbon-ion energy of 7 MeV/u. The third-order resonance and RF-Knock Out scheme are adopted in this machine. The general design of the machine and injection/extraction simulation results is discussed in this paper.

Effects of injection beam parameters and foil scattering for CSNS/RCS

In the rapid cycling synchrotron of the China Spallation Neutron Source , the anti-correlated painting was adopted for the design scheme of the injection system. In the beam commissioning, with the optimization of the anti-correlated painting, the injection beam loss has been well controlled and the injection efficiency has exceeded 99%. Combined with other aspects of adjustments, the beam power on the target has reached 50 kW. In this paper, we have studied the injection optimization in the beam commissioning. Compared to the simulation results of the design scheme, the transverse beam distribution, transverse coupling effect and beam loss of the anti-correlated painting in the beam commissioning are somewhat different. Through the machine studies, we have carefully analyzed these differences and studied their reasons.

Analysis, Prototyping, and Design of an Ionization Profile Monitor for the Spallation Neutron Source Accumulator Ring

Beam properties resulting from transverse phase space painting for the injection of the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) accumulator ring are summarized. The focus is on the creation of closed orbit bumps that give suitable distributions at the spallation neutron target, at the same time minimizing the beam losses through tail/halo formation. Related issues such as foil traversal rate and foil temperature/lifetime are also studied. Finally, injection mismatch is investigated for large linac emittance to reduce the beam loss through scattering.
