TL;DR: Charcoal coated with a synthetic hydrogel overcomes many of the disadvantages associated with the use of uncoated material in that there is a much reduced thrombocytopenia and no evidence of charcoal embolism.

Oral methionine in the treatment of severe paracetamol (acetaminophen) overdose
TL;DR: It is suggested that methionine may be effective in reducing the frequency and severity of paracetamol-induced liver damage and may provide an effective non-toxic alternative to cysteamine.

TL;DR: A survey of severely poisoned patients referred to the Poisons Unit for laboratory analysis suggests that this method of treatment may have an important role to play in reducing the mortality and morbidity of the severely poisoned patient, particularly in those cases who have taken short or medium acting barbiturates or nonbarbiturate hypnotics.

The use of methionine for acute paracetamol poisoning.
TL;DR: It is suggested that oral methionine, which has a low incidence of side-effects, may be effective in reducing the incidence and severity of paracetamol-induced liver damage, provided the overdose is not massive.
