Two factors of the lectin pathway of complement, l-ficolin and mannan-binding lectin, and their associations with prematurity, low birthweight and infections in a large cohort of Polish neonates.
Anna St. Swierzko,Anne P.M. Atkinson,Maciej Cedzynski,Shirley Lynn Macdonald,Agnieszka Szala,Iwona Domzalska-Popadiuk,Monika Borkowska-Klos,Aleksandra Jopek,Jerzy Szczapa,Misao Matsushita,Janusz Szemraj,Marc Turner,David C. Kilpatrick +12 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that l-ficolin participates in host defence during the perinatal period and constitute the first evidence that relative l- ficolin deficiency may contribute to the adverse consequences of prematurity.

H-ficolin (ficolin-3) concentrations and FCN3 gene polymorphism in neonates.
Mateusz Michalski,Agnieszka Szala,Anna St. Swierzko,Jolanta Lukasiewicz,Anna Maciejewska,David C. Kilpatrick,Misao Matsushita,Iwona Domzalska-Popadiuk,Monika Borkowska-Klos,Anna Sokolowska,Jerzy Szczapa,Czeslaw Lugowski,Czeslaw Lugowski,Maciej Cedzynski +13 more
TL;DR: One premature newborn, with confirmed infection caused by Streptococcus agalactiae, was H-ficolin-deficient (FCN3 variant homozygote, no detectable protein), what is only the fourth case report of total H- ficolin deficiency in the world literature.
42
Mannan-binding lectin-associated serine protease-2 (MASP-2) in a large cohort of neonates and its clinical associations.
Anna St. Swierzko,Maciej Cedzynski,Iwona Domzalska-Popadiuk,Shirley Lynn Macdonald,Monika Borkowska-Klos,Anne P.M. Atkinson,Agnieszka Szala,Aleksandra Jopek,Jens C. Jensenius,Masaya Kawakami,Jerzy Szczapa,Misao Matsushita,Janusz Szemraj,Marc Turner,David C. Kilpatrick +14 more
TL;DR: Serum MASP-2 concentrations correlated with gestational age and birthweight and were significantly lower in premature babies and other pre-term babies compared with term babies, and there was a trend towards higherMASP-1 concentrations amongst babies with infections, and no association of this SNP was apparent with prematurity, low birthweight or perinatal infections.

Primary Ficolin-3 deficiency – Is it associated with increased susceptibility to infections?
Mateusz Michalski,Anna S. Świerzko,Izabela Pągowska-Klimek,Zofia I Niemir,Karolina Mazerant,Iwona Domzalska-Popadiuk,Maciej Moll,Maciej Cedzynski +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the clinical consequences of congenital Ficolin-3 deficiency are still unclear and such questions as whether it may be life-threatening or acts as a disease modifier remain to be elucidated.

The relationship between FCN2 genotypes and serum ficolin-2 (L-ficolin) protein concentrations from a large cohort of neonates.
David C. Kilpatrick,Anna St. Swierzko,Misao Matsushita,Iwona Domzalska-Popadiuk,Monika Borkowska-Klos,Jerzy Szczapa,Maciej Cedzynski +6 more
TL;DR: FCN2 genotyping may be of value in clinical studies, but not as a substitute for total serum ficolin-2 protein measurement, because the intra-genotype concentration ranges were large and greater than the inter-genotypes differences.
