According to WHO, the permissible limit of arsenic till 1993 was 0.05 mg. /L of drinking water. In 1993, WHO modified the maximum level and brought it down to 0.01 mg./L. According to the report of School of Environment Studies of Jadavpur University (1992-1993), West Bengal has 6 districts, affected by arsenic contamination of ground water. The present paper attempts to find out the vulnerability and impact of arsenic on human being. A detailed survey was conducted at Dahapara village of Murshidabad district to assess the present condition of the area giving emphasis on the identification of sources of arsenic pollution.

Creative Cognition: Theory, Research, and Applications

Learning is a natural human activity that is shaped by personal experiences, cognitive awareness, personal bias, opinions, cultural background, and environment. Learning has been defined as a stable and persistent change in what a person knows and can do. Learning is formed through an individual’s interactions, including the conveyance of knowledge and skills from others and experiences. So, learning is a personalized experience that allows one to expand their knowledge, perspective, skills, and understanding. Therefore, personalized learning models can help to meet individual needs and goals. Furthermore, to personalize the learning experience, technology integration can play a crucial role. This paper provides a review of the recent research literature on personalized learning as technology is changing how learning can be effectively personalized. The emphasis is on the terms used to characterize learning as those can suggest a framework for personalized and will eventually be used in meta-analyses of research on personalized learning, which is beyond the scope of this paper.

A systematic literature review of personalized learning terms

This study investigates the implications of ChatGPT, an AI-powered language model, for students and universities by examining the perceptions of scholars and students. The responses of seven scholars and 14 PhD students from four countries – Turkey, Sweden, Canada and Australia – are analysed using a thematic content analysis approach. Nine key themes emerge from the findings. According to their frequency of recurrence, these themes are: “Evolution of learning and education systems”, “changing role of educators”, “impact on assessment and evaluation”, “ethical and social considerations”, “future of work and employability”, “personalized learning”, “digital literacy and AI integration”, “AI as an extension of the human brain”, and “importance of human characteristics”. The potential benefits of AI in education as well as the challenges and barriers that may arise from its integration are discussed in the context of existing literature. Based on these findings, suggestions for future research include further exploration of the ethical implications of AI for education, the development of strategies to manage privacy concerns, and the investigation of how educational institutions can best prepare for the integration of AI technologies. The paper concludes by emphasizing the importance of understanding the potential opportunities and challenges associated with AI in higher education and the need for continued research in this area.

What ChatGPT means for universities: Perceptions of scholars and students

In the past few decades, technology has completely transformed the world around us. Indeed, experts believe that the next big digital transformation in how we live, communicate, work, trade and learn will be driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI) [83]. This paper presents a high-level industrial and academic overview of AI in Education (AIEd). It presents the focus of latest research in AIEd on reducing teachers’ workload, contextualized learning for students, revolutionizing assessments and developments in intelligent tutoring systems. It also discusses the ethical dimension of AIEd and the potential impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the future of AIEd’s research and practice. The intended readership of this article is policy makers and institutional leaders who are looking for an introductory state of play in AIEd.

Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIEd): a high-level academic and industry note 2021

The aim of this study is to examine adaptation elements and Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) elements used in Adaptive Intelligent Tutoring Systems (AITSs), using meta-synthesis methods to analyze the results of previous research. Toward this end, articles appearing in the Web of Science, Google Scholar, Eric and Science Direct databases in 2000 and later were identified with the keyphrase “adaptive intelligent tutoring system.” Application of exclusion and inclusion procedures to the articles accessed in the search resulted in the selection of 32 articles, which were analyzed using meta-synthesis methods and then evaluated in the light of prespecified themes and elements used in AITSs were determined. According to results, the systems were designed for a wide range of fields such as Information Technologies, Mathematics, Science, Medicine, and Foreign Language Education. In these systems, content adaptation was generally used, based mostly on such criteria as feedback, student level, student learning and cognitive styles, and student performance. And besides 4 basic ITS modules (knowledge, student, teaching and user interface), some different modules such as guide module, strategy module, personal learning module, knowledge base module, communication module, system administrator module and messaging module were used. Finally, some suggestions were given for such studies in the future.

Design framework of adaptive intelligent tutoring systems

The design and development processes of instructional materials might be considered simple and clear because the pre-established instructional goals can lead the way. However, in practice, there are lots of issues to be considered during these processes. The quality of the material, appropriate visual design, usability, and acceptable amount of cognitive load are some of these issues. On the other hand, an instructional material needs to be as original as possible. In this study, we focused on the creativity of the instructional materials designed and developed by second year students from the Computer Education and Instructional Technologies (CEIT) department. We divided students into two groups: (1) CEIT students designing and developing materials about Information Technology (IT); (2) CEIT students designing and developing materials about Math. The main aim of this study is to understand how CEIT students’ instructional materials differ when they design and develop materials, which are out of their field of experience. In other words, we tried to compare how the creativity of materials change when students create materials with familiar domain (IT) in comparison to unfamiliar domain (Math). Students worked on ten instructional materials such as digital story, animation, and worksheet for 14 weeks. The materials of students were evaluated in terms of creativity, and then they were interviewed. The students worked in groups of 4–5, and during the material development period, we as researchers observed and took notes about the whole process. The findings indicated that materials developed in familiar domain were higher in creativity than those of the unfamiliar. Students’ explanations of creativity and their evaluations about the process helped us to understand the reasons of the produced materials’ creativeness. Technical skills, authentic contributions, material type, and the boundaries of the content or familiarity were found as the primary factors affecting the design and development of creative instructional materials.

Kullanicilarin ArtiBos’da istenen gorevleri gerceklestirme sureclerindeki ekran goruntuleri, sesli dusunme teknigi (think aloud) sirasinda alinan ses kayitlari, ogrencilerle yapilan gorusmeler ve uzmanlarin gorusleriyle veriler elde edilmistir. Calismada, ArtiBos’un kullanilabilirlik testleri sureci detayli bir sekilde aciklanmis ve kullanilabilirlik degerlendirme sureclerine yonelik oneriler sunulmustur.  Elde edilen sonuclarin benzer sistemlerin kullanilabilirlik calismasini yapmayi planlayan arastirmacilar icin yol gosterici olmasi hedeflenmektedir.

Designing a Usability Assessment Process for Adaptive Intelligent Tutoring Systems:A Case Study

This study aims at revealing the creativity dimension of the materials designed and developed by the second year students studying at the department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology. A part of the participants has completed the process by designing materials in their own field, information technologies; while some of them have done so by designing materials in the field of mathematics. The data have been retrieved from an experimental study of 13 weeks. “Teaching Material Creativity Rubric” developed by the researchers, has been used as the data collection tool. The rubric has been developed in order to evaluate the creativity dimensions of products. While developing the rubric, the creative product evaluation dimensions of [14] have been a source of inspiration. The products developed by the students have been evaluated through the retrieved data, in terms of their creativity. The rubric developed includes Originality, Practicality & Sensibility, Productivity & Flexibility, Feasibility, Inclusiveness, and Insightfulness dimensions. In this research, the data of the aforementioned dimensions and sub-dimensions have been evaluated. The results present that the creativity level of the products on teaching information technologies, which have been developed by Computer Education and Instructional Technology (CEIT) students, is high. It has been argued that the creativity of domain-specifically developed materials is higher, through literature. Bu islemleri gerceklestirmek icin Tobii Studio 3.4.2 programi kullanilmistir. Incelenecek olan web sitelerini belirlemek icin her kademeden akademisyene ulasilarak, cevrimici anket uygulanmistir. Kaynaklarin etkililigini olcmek icin kullanicilarin gorevi tamamlama durumu ve gorevi tamamlayamama sebepleri incelenmistir. Kaynaklarin verimliligini olcmek icin gorev bitirme suresi ile kaynak uzerinde belirlenen bolgelere ilk bakisa kadar gecen sure, ilk bakis suresi, toplam bakis suresi, bakis sayisi, bakis orani, ilk fare tiklamasina kadar gecen sure, ilk bakistan ilk fare tiklamasina kadar gecen sure ve fare tiklama sayisi incelenmistir. Kullanici memnuniyetini olcmek icin ise test sonrasi memnuniyet formu uygulanmistir. Bulgular sonucunda kaynaklarin ara yuz tasariminda belli sikintilar oldugu tespit edilmis, sikintilarin cozumu icin onerilerde bulunulmustur.
