Silica Nanosprings Coated with Noble Metal Nanoparticles: Highly Active SERS Substrates
V. V. R. Sai,Devananda Gangadean,Ishwar Niraula,Jamie M. F. Jabal,Giancarlo Corti,David N. McIlroy,D. Eric Aston,Josh R. Branen,Patrick J. Hrdlicka +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the SERS enhancement factors approaching ∼1010 were observed with thiophenol and ∼108 with core−shell nanostructures, formed by deposition of catalytically reduced silver on AuNP-coated silica NS.

Ripening of nanowire-supported gold nanoparticles
TL;DR: In this paper, gold nanoparticles formed on GaN nanowires by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition was annealed at temperatures ranging from 150 to 270 °C for 24 h. Particle size was measured before and after annealing using a field emission scanning electron microscope.

Self-Assembled Monolayers of Thiols Adsorbed on Au/ZnO-Functionalized Silica Nanosprings: Photoelectron Spectroscopy-Analysis and Detection of Vaporized Explosives
Blaise-Alexis Fouetio Kengne,Saswata Karmakar,Mamta Kaura,V. V. R. Sai,Giancarlo Corti,Ishwar Niraula,Alexander Larin,Jessica Hall,Dewayne Sowell,Patrick J. Hrdlicka,Vladimir Dobrokhotov,David N. McIlroy +11 more
TL;DR: X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopies (XPS and UPS) have been used to investigate the surface electronic structure of the SAMs coated nanosprings and showed that the hybridization of S 3p states and Au d-bands produces antibonding and bonding states, above and below the AuD-bands, which is characteristic of molecular chemisorption on Au nanoparticles.

Thermally initiated solvent-free radical modification of beech ( Fagus sylvatica ) wood
Mariusz Mamiński,Magdalena Król,Armando G. McDonald,David N. McIlroy,Ishwar Niraula,J. Czechowska,Paweł G. Parzuchowski +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a procedure for rapidly modifying beech wood using a thermally initiated solvent-free grafting system was examined, where butyl acrylate and butyl methacrylate were used as vinyl monomers.
Observation of surface plasmon polariton pumping of optical eigenmodes of gold-decorated gallium nitride nanowires.
Jency Pricilla Sundararajan,Pavel V Bakharev,Ishwar Niraula,Blaise-Alexis Fouetio Kengne,Quinn MacPherson,Meredith Sargent,Brian Hare,David N. McIlroy +7 more
TL;DR: The maxima in the photocurrent for d > 200 nm are assigned to the two lowest azimuthally symmetric transverse magnetic eigenmodes, which have maximum electric field intensities within the undepleted region of the GaN nanowire.
