Every electrical device that needs stabilization and regulation uses it. a piece of electrical equipment that controls the AVR’s generator output terminal voltage automatically to keep it at a set value when the load is fluctuating This paper compares PID Controllers to show rising time, overshoot, and undershoot in line with different research paper evaluations. This article combines artificial neural networks (ANN) and fuzzy interference to create the adaptive neuro-fuzzy interference system (ANFIS). In this paper, we work on AVR using different techniques to improve the controller’s simulation result.

ANN and ANFIS techniques for Automatic Voltage Regulation

Two novel improved variants of reptile search algorithm (RSA), RSA with opposition-based learning (ORSA) and hybrid ORSA with pattern search (ORSAPS), are proposed to determine the proportional, integral, and derivative (PID) controller parameters of an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system using a novel objective function with augmented flexibility. In the proposed algorithms, the opposition-based learning technique improves the global search abilities of the original RSA algorithm, while the hybridization with the pattern search (PS) algorithm improves the local search abilities. Both algorithms are compared with the original RSA algorithm and have shown to be highly effective algorithms for tuning the PID controller parameters of an AVR system by getting superior results. Several analyses such as transient, stability, robustness, disturbance rejection, and trajectory tracking are conducted to test the performance of the proposed algorithms, which have validated the good promise of the proposed methods for controller designs. The performances of the proposed design approaches are also compared with the previously reported PID controller parameter tuning approaches to assess their success. It is shown that both proposed approaches obtain excellent and robust results among all compared ones. That is, with the adjustment of the weight factor , which is introduced by the proposed objective function, for a system with high bandwitdh (), the proposed ORSAPS-PID system has 2.08% more bandwidth than the proposed ORSA-PID system and 5.1% faster than the fastest algorithm from the literature. On the other hand, for a system where high phase and gain margins are desired (), the proposed ORSA-PID system has 0.53% more phase margin and 2.18% more gain margin than the proposed ORSAPS-PID system and has 0.71% more phase margin and 2.25% more gain margin than the best performing algorithm from the literature. 

Determination of AVR System PID Controller Parameters Using Improved Variants of Reptile Search Algorithm and a Novel Objective Function

In this paper, a comprehensive review of recent advances and trends regarding Fractional Order Fault Tolerant Control (FOFTC) design is presented. This novel robust control approach has been emerging in the last decade and is still gathering great research efforts mainly because of its promising results and outcomes. The purpose of this study is to provide a useful overview for researchers interested in developing this interesting solution for plants that are subject to faults and disturbances with an obligation for a maintained performance level. Throughout the paper, the various works related to FOFTC in literature are categorized first by considering their research objective between fault detection with diagnosis and fault tolerance with accommodation, and second by considering the nature of the studied plants depending on whether they are modelized by integer order or fractional order models. One of the main drawbacks of these approaches lies in the increase in complexity associated with introducing the fractional operators, their approximation and especially during the stability analysis. A discussion on the main disadvantages and challenges that face this novel fractional order robust control research field is given in conjunction with motivations for its future development. This study provides a simulation example for the application of a FOFTC against actuator faults in a Boeing 747 civil transport aircraft is provided to illustrate the efficiency of such robust control strategies.

Fractional Order Fault Tolerant Control - A Survey

This paper demonstrates the application of MPC to improve the dynamic performance of an AVR. To observe the performance of an AVR when the terminal voltage of a generator deviates from its normal voltage, its transfer function is mathematically modeled and simulated. Thereafter a PID controller is introduced to enhance the system’s response after it has experienced voltage disturbances. The final model is an MPC-based AVR. The performance of these models is analyzed and compared critically for implementation on AVR systems and maintaining voltage stability The analysis of performance is conducted using response time, Peak voltage, and percentage overshoot as well as performance indices. The results are evaluated to show one of the feasible designs to maintain the constant terminal voltage of the AVR. The transient response of an MPC-based AVR has proven to be the best performing AVR system. 

Modeling and Performance Analysis of an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) using Model Predictive Controller (MPC)

In this paper, a new design method for fractional order model predictive control (FO-MPC) is introduced. The proposed FO-MPC is synthesized for the class of linear time invariant system and applied for the control of an automatic voltage regulator (AVR). The main contribution is to use a fractional order system as prediction model, whereas the plant model is considered as an integer order one. The fractional order model is implemented using the singularity function approach. A comparative study is given with the classical MPC scheme. Numerical simulation results on the controlled AVR performances show the efficiency and the superiority of the fractional order MPC.
