This paper provides further insight into IS adoption by investigating how 12 factors within the technology-organization-environment (T-O-E) framework explain SMEs’ adoption of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. Survey data were collected from executives of SMEs drawn from six fast service enterprises with strong operations in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Purposive and snow ball sampling was adopted and the proposed framework was tested using the logistic regression; specifically, the likelihood ratios, Hosmer and Lemeshow’s goodness of fit, and Nagelkerke R2 were used. The hypothesized relationships were supported at either p < 0.01 or 0.05 with each factor differing in its statistical coefficient and some bearing negative values; suggesting that some factors do not pose much threat to adopters but to non-adopters. Using T-O-E theoretical framework to study the adoption of ERP solution

Purpose This paper aims to investigate empirically how ICT can contribute to reduction of CO2 emissions in road freight transport and to identify opportunities for further improvements. Design/methodology/approach This research adopts a multiple-case study approach with three leading UK grocery retailers as exemplars of fast moving consumer goods retailers, conducted using multiple data collection techniques including interviews, system demonstrations, onsite observations and the use of archive information. Findings ICT solutions have a direct positive impact on CO2 emissions reduction but opportunities to further reduce CO2 emissions are perceived as lying beyond retailers’ own distribution networks. These opportunities are not fully utilised due to the complexities of collaborative ICT provisions and retailers’ reluctance to share information with competitors. Research limitations/implications A limitation of our study is that it is exploratory and only three cases were examined. Even though these three retailers represent over 60% of the UK grocery retail sector, other retailers may deploy significantly different ICT applications. Practical and Social implications The research provides an overarching insight for businesses on how to leverage the existing and emerging information technologies for environmental and economic benefits. Originality/Value: While sustainability issues have received increasing attention recently, the role of ICT in freight transport for CO2 emissions reduction has not been investigated in depth and its impact is largely unknown. This research advances understanding about how ICT contributes CO2 emissions reductions and provides a framework for further investigation.

The use of ICT in road freight transport for CO2 reduction - an exploratory study of UK’s grocery retail industry

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to consolidate the critical success factors (CSFs) as published in enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation case studies. The authors perform the analysis and propose the final CSFs based on the reported ERP implementation process stages. Design/methodology/approach – The paper follows the eight category coding steps proposed by Carley (1993) and utilizes only ERP implementation case studies to identify a distinct set of critical success factors. The 37 case studies used in this paper provide a reasonable sample from different countries and contexts. Two methodologies were followed, one for the literature review process and the other for the analysis and synthesis. Findings – Out of 64 reported CSFs that were extracted from the literature and subsequent detailed analysis and synthesis the authors found a total of 22 factors that are distinct. Critical success factors in enterprise resource planning implementation

Purpose




The purpose of this study is to evaluate critical success factors (CSFs) for the implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system from a user perspective.




Design/methodology/approach




The research was conducted in two successive steps. First, a literature review was conducted to derive CSFs for ERP system implementation. Second, a survey was conducted to evaluate the importance of these CSFs from a user perspective. Data were collected through a questionnaire that was distributed within a German manufacturer and was developed based on the CSFs found in the literature. Gray relational analysis (GRA) was used to rank the CSFs in order of importance from a user perspective.




Findings




The findings reveal that users regard 11 of the 13 CSFs found in the literature as important for ERP system implementation. Seven of the CFSs were classified as the most important from a user perspective, namely, project team, technical possibilities, strategic decision-making, training and education, minimum customization, software testing and performance measurement. Users regarded 2 of the 13 CSFs as not important when implementing an ERP system, including organizational change management and top management involvement.




Research limitations/implications




One limitation of this study is that the respondents originate from one organization, industry and country. The findings may differ in other contexts, and thus, future research should be expanded to include more organizations, industries and countries. Another limitation is that this study only evaluates existing CSFs from a user perspective rather than identifying new ones and/or the underlying reasons using more qualitative research.




Practical implications




A better understanding of the user perspective toward CSFs for ERP system implementation promises to contribute to the design of more effective ERP systems, a more successful implementation and a more effective operation. When trying to successfully implement an ERP system, the project team may use the insights from the user perspective.




Originality/value




Even though researchers highlight the important role users play during ERP system implementation, their perspective toward the widely discussed CSFs for ERP system implementation has not been investigated comprehensively. This study aims to fill this gap by evaluating CSFs derived from the literature from a user perspective.

Critical success factors for ERP system implementation : A user perspective

ERP projects are complex purposes which influence main internal and external operations of companies. The success of the project directly influences the performance and the survival of the organisation. Recent research has me- thodically collected plausible data in the field of critical success factors (CSFs) within ERP projects. This article describes how the collected publications were used to identify the main CSFs and how they can be ranked according to the impor- tance of success or failure through a literature review. Because of the influence of CSFs to ERP-projects in general, the term "ERP project" is used in the further parts of this paper. The second part of this paper proposes how CSFs can be in- tegrated into classical ERP project phases. Past researches did nearly not investigate how CSFs which were mentioned in different publications can influence the ERP-project phases. At the end of the paper the trend of CSF in relation of the publication year and the origin of the author are shown.
