TL;DR: Low-dose exposures to common environmental chemicals that are deemed safe individually may be combining to instigate carcinogenesis, thereby contributing to the incidence of cancer.
Pediatric Exposures to Ionizing Radiation: Carcinogenic Considerations
TL;DR: The carcinogenic potential of pediatric exposures to ionizing radiation from accidental, diagnostic, and therapeutic modalities is discussed and particular emphasis is given to leukemia and thyroid cancers as consequences of accidental exposures.

Effects of ionizing radiation on DNA methylation: from experimental biology to clinical applications
TL;DR: The current knowledge of the effects of IR on DNA methylation, a key epigenetic mechanism regulating the expression of genetic information, is summarized and ways in which that understanding can be applied clinically are discussed, including utilization of DNAmethylation as a predictor of response to radiotherapy and in the manipulation ofDNA methylation patterns for tumor radiosensitization.
Effects of ionizing radiation on the heart
Marjan Boerma,Vijayalakshmi Sridharan,Xiao Wen Mao,Gregory A. Nelson,Amrita K. Cheema,Igor Koturbash,Sharda P. Singh,Alan J. Tackett,Martin Hauer-Jensen +8 more
TL;DR: An overview of studies addressing effects of ionizing radiation on the heart is provided, to increase knowledge of biological mechanisms of cardiovascular radiation injury, identify non-invasive biomarkers for early detection, and potential interventions that may prevent or mitigate these adverse effects.
Short-term exposure to engineered nanomaterials affects cellular epigenome
Xiaoyan Lu,Isabelle R. Miousse,Sandra V. Pirela,Stepan Melnyk,Igor Koturbash,Philip Demokritou +5 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that exposure to ENMs at environmentally relevant concentrations, aside from the geno- and cytotoxic effects, can also affect the epigenome of target cells.
