Outbreaks of Neuroinvasive Astrovirus Associated with Encephalomyelitis, Weakness, and Paralysis among Weaned Pigs, Hungary.
Ákos Boros,Mihály Albert,Péter Pankovics,Hunor Bíró,Patricia A. Pesavento,Tung Gia Phan,Eric Delwart,Eric Delwart,Gábor Reuter +8 more
TL;DR: A large, highly prolific swine farm in Hungary had a 2-year history of neurologic disease among newly weaned pigs, with clinical signs of posterior paraplegia and a high mortality rate, suggesting that astrovirus could cause common, neuroinvasive epidemic disease.
Enteric caliciviruses in domestic pigs in Hungary.
TL;DR: This study confirms the presence of caliciviruses, both porcine sapovirus (genus Sapovirus) and Porcine norovirus, in domestic pigs in Hungary and provides additional information on the viral genetic diversity and relationship to viruses referred to as human calicviruses.

Characterization of a novel porcine enterovirus in wild boars in Hungary
Ákos Boros,Csaba Nemes,Péter Pankovics,Hunor Bíró,Beatrix Kapusinszky,Eric Delwart,Eric Delwart,Gábor Reuter,Gábor Reuter +8 more
TL;DR: Wild boar enterovirus represents a novel PEV genotype, provisionally called PEV-15, and is identified and characterize the complete genomes of PEV originated from 5 of 10 of wild boar (Sus scrofa) piglets by RT-PCR and pyrosequencing.
High prevalence, genetic diversity and a potentially novel genotype of Sapelovirus A (Picornaviridae) in enteric and respiratory samples in Hungarian swine farms
Ákos Boros,Zoltán László,Péter Pankovics,András Marosi,Mihály Albert,Attila Cságola,Hunor Bíró,Elizabeth Fahsbender,Eric Delwart,Gábor Reuter +9 more
TL;DR: The complete genome of a second, possibly recombinant, genotype of PSV strain SZ1M-F/PSV/HUN2013 from a faecal sample of a paraplegic pig in Hungary was characterized using viral metagenomics and RT-PCR.

Secondary structure analysis of swine pasivirus (family Picornaviridae ) RNA reveals a type-IV IRES and a parechovirus-like 3’ UTR organization
Ákos Boros,Hajnalka Fenyvesi,Péter Pankovics,Hunor Bíró,Tung Gia Phan,Tung Gia Phan,Eric Delwart,Eric Delwart,Gábor Reuter +8 more
TL;DR: The genome, CRE, and 3’ UTR of pasiviruses provide further evidence of the common origin of the members of the genera Parechovirus and Pasivirus, although their different 5’ UTR IRES types suggest that a recombination event occurred during the divergence these viruses.
