Luminescence properties of multicolor emitting La4GeO8:Tb3+,Eu3+ phosphors

The luminescence properties of Bi3+ in 177 inorganic compounds are reviewed and rationalized based on two simple and easy-to-use models. These models are applicable to any kind of compound whose crystal structure is known. The calculation of the nephelauxetic function, he, involved in one of the models is described step-by-step for an easy implementation in a home-made calculator or machine-learning algorithm. Finally, a criterion based on the experimental value of the Stokes shift is introduced to help in fixing the origin of the Bi3+-related emission.

A NIR BODIPY-based ratiometric fluorescent probe for HClO detection with high selectivity and sensitivity in real water samples and living zebrafish.

Green-emitting BaLa2ZnO5:Tb3+ nanophosphors (NPs) were synthesized via a safe and cost-effective solution combustion process, with Tb3+ dopant content optimized at 4 mol% to avoid concentration quenching. The NPs exhibited strong green emission at 545 nm, a decay lifetime of 0.520 ms, and a quantum efficiency of 35.12%. Chromaticity generalization demonstrated their potential for advanced lighting devices, with coordinate values of (0.2669, 0.5274), a temperature of 7246 K, and color purity of 91.03%. The optimized NPs produced a proof-of-concept security ink and a translucent anti-counterfeiting (AC) film that could emit a powerful green light when exposed to UV light. A Python program was developed to enhance and extract features from fingerprints, emphasizing the importance of each step in producing a perfectly improved image. The minutiae FPs were color-coded to indicate bifurcation and termination, and the final stage of thinning and binarizing images revealed Level-I and Level-II features. The optimized BLZO:4Tb3+ NPs demonstrated great potential for solid-state lighting, flexible displays, anti-counterfeiting, and dermatoglyphics applications. 

Optimized Tb3+-activated Highly Efficient Green-emanating BaLa2ZnO5 nanophosphors in PDMS Matrix for Flexible Display, Anti-Counterfeiting, and Dermatoglyphics Applications

Long persistent luminescence (LPL) anti-counterfeiting technology is widely used in optical information storage, information security, and anti-counterfeiting fields due to the advantages of non-interference with background light and high imaging resolution. However, the performance of most LPL materials is greatly compromised in harsh environments such as high temperature, which seriously affects the effectiveness of anti-counterfeiting measures due to the accelerated decay rate of LPL luminescence. In this work, we synthesized a series of MgGa2O4: Tb3+ (MGO: Tb3+), which possess stable crystal structure with obvious LPL properties above room temperature, and the optimum temperature is determined to be 423 K. Moreover, the additional introduction of Er3+ ions enhances the security of anti-counterfeiting, and the combination of photo-stimulated luminescence (PSL) and upconversion (UC) phenomena enables color tuning from red to orange to green by extending the 980 nm laser irradiation time. Finally, the anti-counterfeiting strategy utilizing MGO: Tb3+ and MGO: Tb3+, Er3+ possesses an extremely high level of security, making it an attractive performance for designing advanced anti-counterfeiting technology.

An Excitation Wavelength-dependent Color-tunable La4GeO8: Bi3+, Er3+ Phosphor for Multicolor Anticounterfeiting

Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is widely used in daily production and life. It is also a kind of endogenously produced reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the human immune system, plays a crucial role in many pathophysiological processes. This work designed and synthesized a novel based on benzocoumarin fluorescent probe BL for specific detection HOCl. BL has brilliant selectivity, high sensitivity (5.64 nM), fast response (60 s), moderate water-solubility. The intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) sensing mechanism of BL has been verified by fluorescence, UV, MS, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. BL can make into a solid-state visual sensor to detect HOCl conveniently. BL was also applied to detect HClO spiked in tap water, 84 disinfectants, lake water, and satisfying recovery rates. Finally, BL was low toxic and used to track the variations of endogenous/exogenous HClO in living cells successfully. Totally, BL provides a powerful and reliable monitoring tool to reveal the biological functions of HOCl and ensure safe use. 

A benzocoumarin-based fluorescent probe for highly specific ultra-sensitive fast detecting endogenous/exogenous hypochlorous acid and its applications

Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is widely used in daily production and life because of its green and strongly oxidizing properties. Additionally, as a vital reactive oxygen species (ROS), it is an innate immune system weapon and performs a critical function in many pathophysiology processes. In this paper, a novel water-soluble fluorescent probe, BMH, with excellent performance is designed and synthesized by simple condensation of benzocoumarin and 2-mercaptoethanol. BMH has specific selectivity, excellent sensitivity, ultra-fast response (<3 s), and a wide pH detection range. The fluorescence intensity of BMH has an excellent linear correlation with the concentration of HOCl in the scope of 0-10 μM, and the calculated detection limit (DL) is 2.45 nM. The intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) sensing mechanism of BL has been verified by fluorescence, UV, and MS studies as well as density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Furthermore, BMH can be incorporated into a solid-state visual sensor to detect HOCl conveniently. BMH was applied to detect HOCl-spiked actual water samples and achieved satisfying recovery rates. Also, the low-toxicity BMH can be successfully used to track changes in endogenous/exogenous HOCl in living cells. In short, BL provides a robust and reliable monitoring tool to reveal the biological functions of HOCl and ensure its safe use.
