This work reveals the role of Bi3+ in the controlling ability of (Bi0.5Ag0.5)ZrO3 to the phase structure of potassium sodium niobate based ceramics by introducing Ba2+. The substitution on (Bi0.5Ag0.5)2+ with Ba2+ results in the reduced degree of phase coexistence, accompanying the phase transition from coexisting orthorhombic-tetragonal (O–T) phases to an orthorhombic (O) phase, which is demonstrated by the systematic phase structure analysis and variations of electrical properties. The analysis reveals that the high electronegativity of Bi3+ results in the increased covalent bond character and then increases the stabilization of the T phase, leading to a decrease in orthorhombic-tetragonal phase transition temperature (T O-T). Therefore, this work not only compares the controlling ability of Ba2+ and (Bi0.5Ag0.5)2+ to T O-T but also reveals which and how elements cause the decreased T O-T, promoting the understanding of the effect of additives on the phase structure.

Reduced degree of phase coexistence in KNN-Based ceramics by competing additives

We profoundly investigated the composition dependence of electrical properties in (1 − x)KNbO3–xNaNbO3 [(1 − x)KN–xNN] ceramics. A phase diagram can be established in (1 − x)KN–xNN according to their temperature dependence of dielectric constant. In addition, the optimization of processing and poling conditions can be attained in the ceramics with x = 0.525. The density of (1 − x)KN–xNN ceramics with x = 0.50 reached the highest value of 4.31 g/cm3 when sintered at 1110 °C. Composition dependence of electrical properties in (1 − x)KNbO3–xNaNbO3 lead-free ceramics

Microwave-assisted reduction of graphene oxide (GO) has been reported to be very effective in producing high-quality reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and its composites. However, either pretreatment (e.g., heating) or an external trigger (e.g., copper wire) is required to initiate the process due to the poor microwave absorption ability of GO. In this work, we report a one-step self-triggered microwave-arcing approach for synthesizing rGO composites (NiCo/rGO) for the first time. Evidenced by permittivity value, the synergic microwave absorption between GO and the metal nitrate salts is found to play an important role in initiating the process. From XRD, Raman, XPS and TEM results, it is proposed that mildly reduced rGO is firstly formed after 10 s, which further enables stronger microwave absorption to facilitate the complete reduction of GO as well as formation of well-crystallized NiCo nanoparticles about 10 nm after 90 s. The as-synthesized product shows a minimum refection loss value of − 44.48 dB with an absorption bandwidth of 3.66 GHz at 4.5 mm.

One-step self-triggered microwave-assisted fabrication of NiCo/graphene for microwave attenuation

In this work, the Ba0.95Ca0.05Ti0.92Sn0.08−x
 Zr
 x
 O3 (BCTSZ-x) lead-free piezoceramics were prepared by the normal sintering, and the influences of Zr content on their phase structure, microstructure, and piezoelectric activity were well investigated. The multiphase coexistence concerning of rhombohedral–orthorhombic (R–O) and orthorhombic–tetragonal (O–T) was observed in the samples with 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.02, and the R–O phase coexistence was shown in the ceramics with 0.02 < x ≤ 0.07. In addition, it was observed that the addition of optimum Zr content can improve the density of the ceramics, and all the elements are homogenously distributed in the ceramic matrix. The ceramics with x = 0.02 possess a high piezoelectric activity of ~450 pC/N due to the involvement of R–O and O–T mixed phases. As a result, the piezoelectric properties of BCTSZ-x ceramics can be operated by changing Zr content.

As the problems of electromagnetic pollution and interference are becoming increasingly serious, the development of electromagnetic absorption materials with a high absorption capacity and broad absorption bandwidth are stringently needed. In this work, an N-doped 2D carbon/Ni complex is synthesized through direct microwave irradiation on a mixed solution of nickel nitrate, urea, and agarose under N2. The electromagnetic absorption performance can be tuned by controlling the Ni content. Specifically, minimum reflection loss values (RLmin) of −65.5 dB at 15.8 GHz with an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 4.2 GHz at a sample thickness of 1.47 mm, and −55.4 dB at 11.8 GHz with an EAB of 3 GHz at a sample thickness of 1.92 mm can be obtained. The outstanding performance of electromagnetic absorption is attributed to the multiple polarization relaxation processes and the synergistic effect between 2D carbon sheets and Ni particles.
