Image emotion classification is an important computer vision task to extract emotions from images. The methods for image emotion classification (IEC) are primarily based on label or distribution as a supervision signal, which neither has enough accessibility nor diversity, limiting the development of IEC research. Inspired by psychology research and the recent booming of large-scale pretrained language models. We figure out a language-supervised paradigm, which can cleverly combine the features of language and visual emotion to drive the visual model to gain stronger emotional discernment with language prompts. To practice the paradigm, we present a conceptually simple while empirically powerful framework for image emotion classification, SimEmotion. That we propose a prompt-based fine-tuning strategy to learn task-specific representations by composing a template with the emotion-level concept and entity-level information. Evaluations on four widely-used affective datasets, namely, Flickr and Instagram (FI), EmotionROI, Twitter I, and Twitter II, demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art methods with a large margin ( <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">i.e. , 8.42% absolute accuracy gain on EmotionROI) on image emotion classification tasks. Our codes will be publicly available for research purposes.

Simple but Powerful, a Language-Supervised Method for Image Emotion Classification

In this research, the effect of the long-term exposure on the creep behavior and microstructure of a directionally solidified GTD-111 precipitation-hardened Ni-based superalloy extracted from a turbine blade, after 76,000 exposure hours, without any interval rejuvenations was investigated. The microstructure observation results demonstrated that there are considerable changes in the microstructure features such as the decomposition of MC carbide, coarsening and spheroidization of primary γ′ (increasing size from 600 to 750 nm and circularity factor from 0.6 to 0.78), dissolution of secondary γ′, and formation of huge deleterious topological closed packed (TCP) phases which profoundly impact its mechanical properties. Furthermore, the rafting phenomenon occurred during the long-term operation at the perpendicular to the loading direction. The formation of dislocation networks can be related to the dislocation cross-slipping in the narrow γ channels, and transition electron microscopic observations confirmed that limited dislocations can shear the γ′ phases. The results showed that the deformation mechanism of the exposed alloy during the steady state creep is dislocation cross slipping and climbing. Meanwhile, the creep behavior was investigated in the longitudinal direction by Larson-Miller, Monkman-grant, and modified Norton-Baily model at stress ranging from 150 to 310 MPa and temperature of 871–982 °C. Long-term exposure to DS GTD-111 significantly decreases its creep properties due to severe microstructural degradation. Based on the fracture analysis of the crept specimens, the main fracture mechanism was an interdendritic fracture, and also the decomposed MC and TCP phases were revealed on the fracture surface.

Platelet hyperreactivity and hyperlipidaemia contribute significantly to atherosclerosis. Thus, it is desirable to review the platelet–hyperlipidaemia interplay and its impact on atherogenesis. Native low‐density lipoprotein (nLDL) and oxidized LDL (oxLDL) are the key proatherosclerotic components of hyperlipidaemia. nLDL binds to the platelet‐specific LDL receptor (LDLR) ApoE‐R2′, whereas oxLDL binds to the platelet‐expressed scavenger receptor CD36, lectin‐type oxidized LDLR 1 and scavenger receptor class A 1. Ligation of nLDL/oxLDL induces mild platelet activation and may prime platelets for other platelet agonists. Platelets, in turn, can modulate lipoprotein metabolisms. Platelets contribute to LDL oxidation by enhancing the production of reactive oxygen species and LDLR degradation via proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 release. Platelet‐released platelet factor 4 and transforming growth factor β modulate LDL uptake and foam cell formation. Thus, platelet dysfunction and hyperlipidaemia work in concert to aggravate atherogenesis. Hypolipidemic drugs modulate platelet function, whereas antiplatelet drugs influence lipid metabolism. The research prospects of the platelet–hyperlipidaemia interplay in atherosclerosis are also discussed.

Ice template-induced assembly coupled with carbonization strategy for preparation of sulfur-doped porous carbon nanosheets from lignite as high-capacity anode for lithium-ion batteries

Among practical anode materials for next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), SiOx has garnered substantial attention owing to its relatively low volumetric variation and high theoretical capacity. Nevertheless, the volumetric change of micro-SiOx remains a formidable challenge for existing adhesives. Here, we propose an innovative design strategy that amalgamates both rigidity and flexibility, in which rigid anion gum Arabic (GA), flexible acrylic random copolymer (ARC), and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) interwoven into a 3D network with strong interfacial adhesion and excellent mechanical properties. These attributes effectively restrict SiOx particles and favor a stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer formed on SiOx. Here, GA plays a pivotal role in dispersing CNTs and maintaining their consistent proximity to SiOx, thereby establishing stable electron conduction networks. The SiOx electrode still sustains a specific capacity of 760 mAh g−1 after 350 cycles under a high current of 1C. Additionally, at 0.2C, the SiOx electrode attains a notably high capacity of 1105 mAh g−1 with a capacity retention of 72.9 % at the 300th cycle, while exhibiting an excellent areal capacity of 1.4 mAh cm−2 even after 400 cycles. This work develops a straightforward yet highly efficacious approach for fabricating high areal capacity electrodes and offers promising prospects for improving the stableness of Si-based anodes.
