As one of the most appealing energy storage technologies, aqueous zinc‐iodine batteries still suffer severe problems such as low energy density, slow iodine conversion kinetics, and polyiodide shuttle. This review summarizes the recent development of Zn─I2 batteries with a focus on the electrochemistry of iodine conversion and the underlying working mechanism. Starting from the fundamentals of Zn─I2 batteries, the electrochemistry of iodine conversion and zinc anode, as well as the scientific problems existing in Zn─I2 batteries are introduced. The concrete strategies dealing with cathode, anode, electrolyte, and separator challenges confronting Zn─I2 batteries are elaborated as well. To deepen the understanding of the electrochemistry of Zn─I2 batteries, the recent important findings of the underlying working mechanism of different Zn─I2 batteries are summarized in detail. Finally, some guidelines and directions for Zn─I2 batteries are also provided. This review is expected to deepen the understanding of Zn─I2 battery electrochemistry and promote their practical applications in the future.

Aqueous Zinc‐Iodine Batteries: From Electrochemistry to Energy Storage Mechanism

The use of conductive MOFs (c-MOFs) in zinc-based batteries has been a popular research direction. Zinc-based batteries are widely used with the advantages of high specific capacity and safety and stability, but they also face many problems. c-MOFs have excellent conductivity compared with other primitive MOFs, and therefore have better applications in zinc-based batteries. In this paper, we discuss the transfer mechanisms of the unique charges of c-MOFs: hop transport and band transport respectively, and further address the way of electron transport. Then, it is introduced that c-MOFs can be prepared in various ways, among which solvothermal, interfacial synthesis and post-processing methods are widely used. In addition, the applications of c-MOFs are discussed in terms of their role and performance in different types of zinc-based batteries. Finally, the current problems of c-MOFs and the prospects for their future development are presented. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Application of Conductive MOF in Zinc-based Batteries.

BackgroundThe evidence on factors that may influence treatment decisional capacity ('capacity') in psychosis has yet to be comprehensively synthesised, which limits the development of effective strategies to improve or support it.AimsTo determine the direction, magnitude and reliability of the relationship between capacity in psychosis and a range of clinical, demographic and treatment-related factors, thus providing a thorough synthesis of current knowledge.MethodWe conducted a systematic review, meta-analytical and narrative synthesis of factors that help or hinder treatment decision-making capacity in psychosis, assessing the direction, magnitude, significance and reliability of reported associations.ResultsWe identified 23 relevant studies (n = l823). Psychotic symptoms had small, moderate and strong associations with appreciation, understanding and reasoning respectively. Both verbal cognitive functioning and duration of education had small to moderate correlations with understanding and reasoning. Better capacity was also associated with better insight, better metacognitive ability, higher anxiety and lower perceived coercion. No linear relationship with depression was observed. Interventions linked to improved capacity over time were in-patient care, information simplification, shared decision-making and metacognitive training.ConclusionsAlthough much is known about the role of symptoms and other clinical variables, effective and acceptable psychological interventions to support capacity in this group are lacking.

Systematic review and meta-analysis of factors that help or hinder treatment decision-making capacity in psychosis

Background Valid consent for treatment or research participation requires that an individual has decision-making capacity (DMC), which is the ability to make a specific decision. There is evidence that the psychopathology of schizophrenia can compromise DMC. The objective of this review was to examine the presence or absence of DMC in schizophrenia and the socio-demographic/psychopathological factors associated. Methods We searched three databases Embase, Ovid MEDLINE(R), and PsycINFO for studies reporting data on the proportion of DMC for treatment and research (DMC-T and DMC-R), and/or socio-demographic/psychopathological associations with ability to make such decisions, in people with schizophrenia and related illnesses. Results A total of 40 studies were identified. While high levels of heterogeneity limited direct comparison, meta-analysis of inpatient data showed that DMC-T was present in 48% of people. Insight was strongly associated with DMC-T. Neurocognitive deficits were strongly associated with lack of DMC-R and to a lesser extent DMC-T. With the exception of years of education, there was no evidence for an association with socio-demographic factors. Conclusions Insight and neurocognitive deficits are most closely associated with DMC in schizophrenia. The lack of an association with socio-demographic factors dispels common misperceptions regarding DMC and characteristics such as age. Although our results reveal a wide spectrum of DMC-T and DMC-R in schizophrenia, this could be partly due to the complexity of the DMC construct and the heterogeneity of existing studies. To facilitate systematic review research, there is a need for improvement within research study design and increased consistency of concepts and tools.

Diversity or disarray? A systematic review of decision-making capacity for treatment and research in schizophrenia and other non-affective psychoses.

Zinc‐ion batteries with chalcogen‐based (S, Se, Te) cathodes have emerged as a promising candidate for utility‐scale energy storage systems and portable electronics, which have attracted rapid attention and offer tremendous opportunities owing to their excellent energy density, on top of the advantages of aqueous Zn batteries including cost‐effectiveness, inherent safety, and eco‐friendliness. Here, a comprehensive overview on the basic mechanism of zinc–chalcogen batteries with their great advantages and intrinsic issues is provided. More detailed recent progress is summarized and the existing challenges with promising strategies are provided as well. First, four specific types of batteries are presented, including: zinc–sulfur, zinc–selenium, zinc–selenium sulfide, and zinc–tellurium batteries. Second, the remaining challenges within chalcogen‐based cathodes in the material preparation, physicochemical properties, and battery performance are summarized and discussed. Meanwhile, a series of constructive strategies are comprehensively put forward for optimizing electrochemical performance. Finally, the future research perspectives of zinc–chalcogen batteries are proposed for the exploration and innovation of next‐generation green zinc storage applications.
