Ease of use and usefulness are believed to be fundamental in determining the acceptance and use of various, corporate ITs. These beliefs, however, may not explain the user’s behavior toward newly emerging ITs, such as the World-Wide-Web (WWW). In this study, we introduce playfulness as a new factor that reflects the user’s intrinsic belief in WWW acceptance. Using it as an intrinsic motivation factor, we extend and empirically validate the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) for the WWW context. # 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Emergence of the use and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education in India has opened new possibilities and challenges. Use of AI in will bring in effective change of governance in the entire internal architecture of Indian Institutes of higher education. The prospect of use of AI includes investigation of educational implications as to how teachers would enrich them, how students would learn, and how accurate and prompt decisions can be taken in the institutes of higher education. This is important since the workload has been multiplied due to massification of higher education. Such being the scenario, help of AI is highly essential. The question of adoption of AI in higher education is an important issue in this perspective. The purpose of this study is to explore how the stakeholders would be able to adopt it. For this, we have taken help of many adoption theories and models including ‘Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology’ (UTAUT) model. We have developed hypotheses and a conceptual model and got it validated through survey with the help of feedbacks from useable 329 respondents. It has been found that the model can help the authorities to facilitate adoption of AI in higher education.

Adoption of artificial intelligence in higher education: a quantitative analysis using structural equation modelling

Purpose – The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM ) has been used to interpret people's adoptions of several kinds of technology. However, while people accept online application service technology with security threats, the perceived risk is generally ignored by past TAM studies. This study proposes an extension of TAM to an online application context.Design/methodology/approach – The research was done through a survey of 1,259 registered users who had used a free trial version of online antivirus (OLA) applications.Findings – The results reveal that perceived risk indirectly impacts intentions to use an online application under security threats. Notably, while perceived usefulness is important to the trial‐and‐leave group, perceived risk more strongly influences the continuous use group.Originality/value – The findings offer a useful insight for software companies that typically offer free trial versions for continuous use as promotions.

An empirical study of the effect of perceived risk upon intention to use online applications

Background: The therapeutic efficacy of dendritic cell (DC)-immunotherapy for large hepatoma in mice is unsatisfactory. Materials & methods: DC-based immunotherapy was used to treat Hepa1-6 tumors measuring 6 ± 1 mm in diameter, enhanced by boosting tumor antigens. Results: CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells were contracted and transformed into memory phenotypic cells after DC-based vaccination. When T-cells were re-stimulated, T-cells obtained from mice boosted by tumor antigen injection showed highest proliferation capacity. When mice with large tumors were treated, DC-based vaccination boosted by tumor antigen and an additional DC-infusion yielded curative rates of 50% and 23.1%, respectively. Conclusion: DC vaccination induced effector memory cells. Antigen presentation recalled by DC or tumor antigens increased the curative rate in mice with large tumors.
