Microlaser assisted diamond turning of precision silicon optics
TL;DR: In this article, an optical raytracing model is developed and used for predicting the laser interaction with the workpiece, which is shown to be in good agreement with that predicted by the model.
34
Ultraprecision laser-assisted diamond machining of single crystal Ge
TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental study on ultraprecision machining (UPM) of single crystal Ge using the μ-LAM process is presented, and it is shown that increased hydrostatic pressures on the surface during cutting by increasing the tool radius and negative rake angle can aid in enhancing ductile material removal from the surface.
27
The application of computational fluid dynamics to vibratory finishing processes
Brigid Mullany,Hossein Shahinian,Jayesh Navare,Farzad Azimi,Eric Fleischhauer,Peter T. Tkacik,Russell G. Keanini +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the potential of modeling the media as a continuum and utilizing commercial computational fluid dynamic (CFD) packages to predict local velocity and pressure fields around stationary workpieces.

Experimental investigation on the effect of crystal orientation of diamond tooling on micro laser assisted diamond turning of zinc sulfide
TL;DR: In this article, a multispectral ZnS workpiece was machined with single crystal diamond tools having two different configurations of cutting plane and cutting direction, and an x-ray diffractometer (XRD) was used to evaluate the cutting planes and cutting directions of each tool.

Micro-laser assisted single point diamond turning of fused silica glass
Hossein Shahinian,Jayesh Navare,Charan Bodlapati,Dmytro Zaytsev,Di Kang,Deepak Ravindra +5 more
- 15 Nov 2019
TL;DR: In this article, the µ-LAM process was used for single point diamond turning (SPDT) of fused silica glass, and a tool wear land of 10 µm on the flank face of the tool was observed.
