Effect of the Online Game Shutdown Policy on Internet Use, Internet Addiction, and Sleeping Hours in Korean Adolescents

This study tested the effects of stress on smartphone addiction via depression and self-efficacy among college students, and the analysis results were as follows: setting mediator and extra variables significantly correlated with the criterion variable as covariates and applying the regression analysis and SPSS Macro as well as bootstrapping method, to verify the mediating effects of depression and self-efficacy in stress and smartphone addiction. This study analyzed the direct effects of stress on the depression, self-efficacy, and smartphone addiction of college students and found that stress had direct effects on their depression and self-efficacy and also indirect effects on their smartphone addiction via depression and self-efficacy. Both depression and self-efficacy had dual and partial mediating effects on the influences of stress on their smartphone addiction. Stress had significant dual mediating effects on their smartphone addiction via the indirect paths of depression and self-efficacy, and high stress also had significant direct effects on their smartphone addiction, thus validating the dual mediation model. These findings demonstrate the need to develop programs to mitigate the stress and depression of college students and enhance their self-efficacy in order to reduce their smartphone addiction.

A systematic review of evaluations of prison‐based alcohol and other drug use behavioural treatment for men

[Purpose] This study aimed to assess the quality of life of elderly people related to physical function, cognitive function, and health, and devised methods to enhance their health-related quality of life. [Subjects and Methods] This study was conducted from November 2014 to January 2015 in 140 people over 65 registered at welfare centers. Those with a functional psychological disorder or difficulty communicating were excluded. Data were collected for physical function, cognitive function, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) using an assessment tool and questionnaire for healthy elderly people over 65. Physical function was measured using muscle strength muscle endurance, reaction time, and balance. [Results] Correlations were observed between cognitive function and endurance, reaction time, and balance. Physical HRQOL showed correlations with all domains of physical function; mental HRQOL showed correlations with all items of physical function except muscle strength. Among factors that influence HRQOL, all items except educational background were significant variables. Educational background had no influence on HRQOL. [Conclusion] Interventions will correct factors with a negative influence on HRQOL, utilizing regular checks on physical, cognitive, and other functions of elderly people, with early detection and intervention to enhance HRQOL. Cognitive intervention related to physical and other functions will be applied.

Correlation between physical function, cognitive function, and health-related quality of life in elderly persons

This study examined the effects of adolescent stress on somatic symptoms. In order to scrutinize the moderating effects of social support, this study also examined the effects by different sources of social support on somatization. The subjects of this study were 425 students in total, consisting of first and second year high school students in Seoul and Gyeonggido, and they were asked to fill out a self-administrated questionnaire. A correlation analysis of stress, social support and somatic symptoms of adolescent showed a significantly positive correlation between stress and somatic symptoms. Also we found that high levels of stress on family, life environment and self are related to lower social support. And social support showed a negative correlation with somatic symtoms. Finally the investigation of social supports' moderating effect on stress and somatization proved that there were significant moderating effects of mother’s and father’s support in the areas of family and everyday life related stress. In addition to that, father’s support had a alleviating effects on self area stress. In conclusion, the results showed that parental support had alleviating effects, even though the stress level was high. (Korean J Str Res 2015;23:187∼196)

Effects of Adolescent Stress on Somatic Symptoms: The Moderating Effects of Social Support

The purpose of this study was to examine effects of socio-demographic, health, and delinquent behavior factors on internet addiction among the Korean youth. This study used the 2009 Korean Youth Health Risk Behavior On-line Survey data. It selected 73,238 cases of junior and senior high school students from the raw data and conducted a secondary data analysis. Frequency analysis, chi-square test and logistic regression analysis was conducted. Being male, living without parents, low economic status, poor academic record, poor subjective health status, poor subjective well-being, high level of stress, presence of depression and experience of drug use significantly increased likelihood of internet addiction. Findings may be used for developing strategies to deal with internet addiction among adolescents in Korea.

This study tried to investigate the relationships between demographic characteristics and delinquent behaviors factors of the Korean high school students and their level of stress. The 2009 Korean Youth Health Risk Behavior On-line Survey data was used for this study. It selected 35,668 cases of senior high school students from the raw dataset and conducted a secondary data analysis. Frequency analysis, t-test, F-test were conducted for this study. Gender, living with parents, economic status, school type, grade, academic record, internet addiction, problem drinking, smoking were significantly associated with their level of stress. Findings may be used for coping with stress among the Korean senior high school students.
