Multi-camera people tracking (MCPT) is a challenging task that is crucial for developing intelligent surveillance applications. In this work, we propose an MCPT system for Challenge Track 1 in the 2023 AI City Challenge. Specifically, we address the issue of occlusion, which causes significant changes in a person’s appearance and makes it difficult to estimate their exact location on a global map of a given area. In this paper, we present several solutions that utilize human pose estimation for overcoming this challenge. Our experimental results demonstrate that using human pose estimation significantly improves the performance of our system. Furthermore, we achieved promising results on the official evaluation set, with an IDF1 score of 86.76%. Our code is publicly available at https://github.com/nota-github/AIC2023_Track1_Nota. 

Addressing the Occlusion Problem in Multi-Camera People Tracking with Human Pose Estimation

Multi-camera multiple people tracking has become an increasingly important area of research due to the growing demand for accurate and efficient indoor people tracking systems, particularly in settings such as retail, healthcare centers, and transit hubs. We proposed a novel multi-camera multiple people tracking method that uses anchor-guided clustering for cross-camera re-identification and spatio-temporal consistency for geometry-based cross-camera ID reassigning. Our approach aims to improve the accuracy of tracking by identifying key features that are unique to every individual and utilizing the overlap of views between cameras to predict accurate trajectories without needing the actual camera parameters. The method has demonstrated robustness and effectiveness in handling both synthetic and real-world data. The proposed method is evaluated on CVPR AI City Challenge 2023 dataset, achieving IDF1 of 95.36% with the first-place ranking in the challenge. Enhancing Multi-Camera People Tracking with Anchor-Guided Clustering and Spatio-Temporal Consistency ID Re-Assignment

In smart ranch management, cattle behavior recognition and tracking play a crucial role in evaluating animal welfare. To address the issues of missed and false detections caused by inter-cow occlusions and infrastructure obstructions in the barn environment, this paper proposes a multi-object tracking method called YOLO-BoT. Built upon YOLOv8, the method first integrates dynamic convolution (DyConv) to enable adaptive weight adjustments, enhancing detection accuracy in complex environments. The C2f-iRMB structure is then employed to improve feature extraction efficiency, ensuring the capture of essential features even under occlusions or lighting variations. Additionally, the Adown downsampling module is incorporated to strengthen multi-scale information fusion, and a dynamic head (DyHead) is used to improve the robustness of detection boxes, ensuring precise identification of rapidly changing target positions. To further enhance tracking performance, DIoU distance calculation, confidence-based bounding box reclassification, and a virtual trajectory update mechanism are introduced, ensuring accurate matching under occlusion and minimizing identity switches. Experimental results demonstrate that YOLO-BoT achieves a mean average precision (mAP) of 91.7% in cattle detection, with precision and recall increased by 4.4% and 1%, respectively. Moreover, the proposed method improves higher order tracking accuracy (HOTA), multi-object tracking accuracy (MOTA), multi-object tracking precision (MOTP), and IDF1 by 4.4%, 7%, 1.7%, and 4.3%, respectively, while reducing the identity switch rate (IDS) by 30.9%. The tracker operates in real-time at an average speed of 31.2 fps, significantly enhancing multi-object tracking performance in complex scenarios and providing strong support for long-term behavior analysis and contactless automated monitoring. 

Research on Cattle Behavior Recognition and Multi-Object Tracking Algorithm Based on YOLO-BoT

Although there is a significant development in 3D Multi-view Multi-person Tracking (3D MM-Tracking), current 3D MM-Tracking frameworks are designed separately for footprint and pose tracking. Specifically, frameworks designed for footprint tracking cannot be utilized in 3D pose tracking, because they directly obtain 3D positions on the ground plane with a homography projection, which is inapplicable to 3D poses above the ground. In contrast, frameworks designed for pose tracking generally isolate multi-view and multi-frame associations and may not be robust to footprint tracking, since footprint tracking utilizes fewer key points than pose tracking, which weakens multi-view association cues in a single frame. This study presents a Unified Multi-view Multi-person Tracking framework to bridge the gap between footprint tracking and pose tracking. Without additional modifications, the framework can adopt monocular 2D bounding boxes and 2D poses as the input to produce robust 3D trajectories for multiple persons. Importantly, multi-frame and multi-view information are jointly employed to improve the performance of association and triangulation. The effectiveness of our framework is verified by accomplishing state-of-the-art performance on the Campus and Shelf datasets for 3D pose tracking, and by comparable results on the WILDTRACK and MMPTRACK datasets for 3D footprint tracking.
