The present invention provides methods and system for power generation using a high efficiency combustor in combination with a CO 2 circulating fluid. The methods and systems advantageously can make use of a low pressure ratio power turbine and an economizer heat exchanger in specific embodiments. Additional low grade heat from an external source can be used to provide part of an amount of heat needed for heating the recycle CO 2 circulating fluid. Fuel derived CO 2 can be captured and delivered at pipeline pressure. Other impurities can be captured.

Methods and systems for low emission power generation in hydrocarbon recovery processes are provided. One system includes a gas turbine system adapted to combust a fuel and an oxidant in the presence of a compressed recycle stream to provide mechanical power and a gaseous exhaust. The compressed recycle stream acts to moderate the temperature of the combustion process. A boost compressor can boost the pressure of the gaseous exhaust before being compressed into the compressed recycle stream. A purge stream may be tapped off from the compressed recycle stream and directed to a C02 separator which discharges C02 and a nitrogen-rich gas, which may be expanded in a gas expander to generate additional mechanical power.

The present techniques are directed to a combustor for a gas turbine. For example, an embodiment provides a spool piece for the combustor. The spool piece includes an oxidant injection port configured for injection of an oxidant proximate to a flame in the combustor and a recycle-gas extraction port configured for an extraction of a recycle gas from the combustor, wherein the recycle gas is isolated from the oxidant prior to the use of the oxidant in a flame.

Methods and systems for low emission power generation in hydrocarbon recovery processes are provided. One system includes a gas turbine system configured to stoichiometrically combust a compressed oxidant derived from enriched air and a fuel in the presence of a compressed recycle exhaust gas and expand the discharge in an expander to generate a recycle exhaust stream and drive a main compressor. A boost compressor receives and increases the pressure of the recycle exhaust stream and prior to being compressed in a compressor configured to generate the compressed recycle exhaust gas. To promote the stoichiometric combustion of the fuel and increase the CO2 content in the recycle exhaust gas, the enriched air can have an increased oxygen concentration.

Provided are more efficient techniques for operating gas turbine systems. In one embodiment a gas turbine system comprises an oxidant system, a fuel system, a control system, and a number of combustors adapted to receive and combust an oxidant from the oxidant system and a fuel from the fuel system to produce an exhaust gas. The gas turbine system also includes a number of oxidant-fiow adjustment devices, each of which are operatively associated with one of the combustors, wherein an oxidant-fiow adjustment device is configured to independently regulate an oxidant flow rate into the associated combustor. An exhaust sensor is in communication with the control system. The exhaust sensor is adapted to measure at least one parameter of the exhaust gas, and the control system is configured to independently adjust each of the oxidant-fiow adjustment devices based, at least in part, on the parameter measured by the exhaust sensor.

A boost compressor can receive and increase the pressure of the gaseous exhaust stream and inject it into an evaporative cooling tower configured to use an exhaust nitrogen gas having a low relative humidity as an evaporative cooling media. The cooled gaseous exhaust stream is then compressed and recirculated through the system as a diluent to moderate the temperature of the stoichiometric combustion.

Methods and systems for enhanced carbon dioxide capture in a combined cycle plant are described. A method includes compressing a recycle exhaust gas from a gas turbine system, thereby producing a compressed recycle exhaust gas stream. A purge stream is extracted from the compressed recycle exhaust gas stream. Carbon dioxide is removed from the extracted purge stream using a solid sorbent.

The presence of angiographic thrombus is associated with poor outcomes in contemporary cardiology practice. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in such lesions is associated with slow flow and no-reflow phenomenon which translate into poor clinical outcomes. This was a single-centre, prospective, open-label, randomized controlled study with 50 patients each in intervention group and control group. Patients with angiographically proven large thrombus burden were recruited. In the intervention group, patients were given loading dose of intracoronary tirofiban (25 mcg/kg infused over 5 minutes) followed by prolonged infusion of tirofiban (0.15 mcg/kg/min for 12–18 hours) followed by PCI after 48–72 hours interval. In control group patients were taken up directly for PCI during the index procedure. Outcomes were assessed angiographically and in terms of clinical endpoints. The primary composite-endpoint of recurrent angina, myocardial infarction, cardiovascular death, target lesion revascularization and unscheduled CABG was significantly lower in the intervention arm compared to control arm (4% vs 16%, p = 0.04). Amongst the secondary endpoints, a statistically significant 30-day increase in ejection fraction from baseline was observed in the intervention group compared to the control group (1.6 ± 1.3 vs 0.2 ± 0.4, p = 0.0001). Overall mortality was similar in the two groups (4% vs 8%, p = 0.39). The primary safety endpoint of major bleeding was also similar in the 2 groups (2% vs 0%, p = 0.31). Tirofiban use prior to PCI in high thrombus burden was associated with improved clinical and angiographic endpoints with similar adverse events compared to controls.
