A method and system for encrypting a first piece of information M to be sent by a sender (100) to a receiver (110) allows both sender and receiver to compute a secret message key using identity-based information and a bilinear map. In a one embodiment, the sender (100) computes an identity-based encryption key from an identifier ID associated with the receiver (110). The identifier ID may include various types of information such as the receiver's e-mail address, a receiver credential, a message identifier, or a date. The sender uses a bilinear map and the encryption key to compute a secret message key grID, which is then used to encrypt a message M, producing ciphertext V to be sent from the sender (100) to the receiver (110) together with an element rP. An identity-based decryption key dID is computed by a private key generator (120) based on the ID associated with the receiver and a secret master key s. After obtaining the private decryption key from the key generator (120), the receiver (110) uses it together with the element rP and the bilinear map to compute the secret message key grID, which is then used to decrypt V and recover the original message M. According to one embodiment, the bilinear map is based on a Weil pairing or a Tate pairing defined on a subgroup of an elliptic curve. Also described are several applications of the techniques, including key revocation, credential management, and return receipt notification.

Systems and methods for identity-based encryption and related cryptographic techniques

A time-based method for generating an authentication code associated with an entity uses an authentication code generated from a secret, a dynamic, time-varying variable, and the number of previous authentication code generations within the particular time interval. Other information such as a personal identification number (PIN) and a verifier identifier can also be combined into the authentication code.

Method and apparatus for performing enhanced time-based authentication

In one embodiment of a user authentication system and method according to the invention, a device shares a secret, referred to as a master seed, with a server. The device and the server both derive one or more secrets, referred to as verifier seeds, from the master seed, using a key derivation function. The server shares a verifier seed with one or more verifiers. The device, or an entity using the device, can authenticate with one of the verifiers using the appropriate verifier seed. In this way, the device and the verifier can share a secret, the verifier seed for that verifier, without that verifier knowing the master seed, or any other verifier seeds. Thus, the device need only store the one master seed, have access to the information necessary to correctly derive the appropriate seed, and have seed derivation capability. A verifier cannot compromise the master seed, because the verifier does not have access to the master seed.

An IC card has a card information memory area wherein there are written a master public key nA, card secret keys pU and qU, a card public key nU, a card identification number IDU, and a first master digital signature SA1 for information including the card identification number. An IC card terminal has terminal information memory area wherein there are written a master public key nA, terminal secret keys pT and qT, a terminal public key nT, a terminal identification number IDT, and a second master digital signature SA2 for information including the terminal identification number IDT. When inserted into the IC card terminal, the IC card sends thereto the data nU, IDU, and SA1. The IC card terminal verifies the digital signature SA1 by the master public key nA and, if it is valid, transmits the data nT, IDT and SA2 to the IC card. The IC card verifies the digital signature SA2 by the master public key nA and, if it is valid, transmits information corresponding to the current remainder value V to the IC card terminal. The IC card terminal makes a check to see if the received information corresponding to the remainder value V is appropriate, and if so, becomes enabled for providing a service.

Method and apparatus for settlement of accounts by IC cards

Systems and methods for managing email are provided. Some of the email may be encrypted using identity-based-encryption (IBE) techniques. When an incoming IBE-encrypted message for a recipient in an organization is received by a gateway at the organization, the gateway may request an IBE private key from an IBE private key generator. The IBE private key generator may generate the requested IBE private key for the gateway. The gateway may use an IBE decryption engine to decrypt the incoming message. The decrypted message can be scanned for viruses and spam and delivered to the recipient. Outgoing email messages can also be processed. If indicated by message attributes or information provided by a message sender, an outgoing message can be encrypted using an IBE encryption engine and the IBE public key of a desired recipient.

Identity-based-encryption message management system

A system for generating a cryptokey (k) to be shared among entities (A, B) engaged in communications, in particular one known as the key predistribution system. Indentifiers (yA, yS) for the entities engaging in communications under a center and a center algorithm (G) which only the center knows are generated, then secret algorithms (xA, XB) distinct to each entity are generated on added to IC cards or other cipher generation means (2, 3). A cipher generation means (2, 3) is provided for each entity. The identifiers (yB, yA) of the other entity are applied to compute a cryptokey, whereby a common cryptokey is generated. Also disclosed is a system for communications using the above shared cryptokey.

A system for generating a cryptographic key (k) shared by entities (A, B) that establish communications, which is particularly called a key predistribution system. A center algorithm (G) which the center only knows is formed under the conditions determined among a plurality of entities that establish communications under the control of the center, and discriminators (yA, yB) of the entities (A, B) are adapted to the center algorithm to form secret algorithms (XA, XB) specific to each of the entities. Then the secret algorithms are loaded onto cipher forming means (2, 3) such as IC cards. The cipher forming means (2, 3) are mounted on the individual entities (A, B), and the discriminators (yB, yA) of the other entities are applied to each other to calculate the cryptographic key (k), thereby forming the shared cryptographic key. The invention further discloses a system of communications using the above-mentioned shared cryptographic key.
