Prevalence of non-aureus staphylococci species causing intramammary infections in Canadian dairy herds
Larissa Anuska Zeni Condas,Jeroen De Buck,Diego B. Nobrega,Domonique A. Carson,Sohail Naushad,Sarne De Vliegher,Ruth N. Zadoks,John R. Middleton,Simon Dufour,John P. Kastelic,Herman W. Barkema +10 more
TL;DR: Overall prevalence of NAS intramammary infection was 35% at calving, decreased over the next 10 d, and then gradually increased until the end of lactation; therefore, accurate identification (species level) is essential for studying NAS epidemiology.

Profiles of Lamina Propria T Helper Cell Subsets Discriminate Between Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease.
Ji Li,Ji Li,Aito Ueno,Miriam Fort Gasia,Joanne Luider,Tie Wang,Christina L. Hirota,Humberto Jijon,Mailin Deane,Michael R. Tom,Ronald Chan,Herman W. Barkema,Paul L. Beck,Gilaad G. Kaplan,Remo Panaccione,Jiaming Qian,Marietta Iacucci,Xinyang Gui,Subrata Ghosh +18 more
TL;DR: The Th1/Th2 paradigm can distinguish CD from UC and may be further associated with response to tumor necrosis factor inhibitor in CD and disease activity in patients with IBD.

Culture of strategically pooled bovine fecal samples as a method to screen herds for paratuberculosis.
TL;DR: Cultural procedure was the modified Jørgensen method, which uses NaOH and oxalic acid for decontamination and modified Löwenstein-Jensen agar slants for cultivation, and was equivalent in herd sensitivity to the culture of individual fecal samples and is significantly less expensive.

Non-aureus Staphylococci and Bovine Udder Health: Current Understanding and Knowledge Gaps.
Jeroen De Buck,Vivian Ha,Sohail Naushad,Diego B. Nobrega,Christopher Luby,John R. Middleton,Sarne De Vliegher,Herman W. Barkema +7 more
TL;DR: The role and impact of non-aureus staphylococci (NAS) in udder health are not entirely understood as mentioned in this paper, and the role of NAS in bovine mastitis is not fully understood.

Pathogen group specific risk factors at herd, heifer and quarter levels for intramammary infections in early lactating dairy heifers
TL;DR: Poor heifer hygiene before calving, a non-clipped udder and not practicing of teat dipping prior to calving increased the odds of intramammary infection with coagulase-negative staphylococci.
