Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation in Patients with Acute Nonlymphocytic Leukemia, Using ex Vivo Marrow Treatment with 4-Hydroperoxycyclophosphamide
A. M. Yeager,Herbert Kaizer,George W. Santos,Rein Saral,O. Michael Colvin,Robert K. Stuart,Hayden G. Braine,Philip J. Burke,Richard F. Ambinder,William H. Burns,D. J. Fuller,J. M. Davis,Judith E. Karp,W. Stratford May,Scott D. Rowley,Lyle L. Sensenbrenner,Georgia B. Vogelsang,John R. Wingard +17 more
TL;DR: The observed disease-free survival after transplantation with autologous marrow treated with 4-hydroperoxycyclophosphamide compares favorably with the results of syngeneic or allogeneic transplantation in similar groups of patients.

Autologous bone marrow transplantation in acute leukemia: a phase I study of in vitro treatment of marrow with 4- hydroperoxycyclophosphamide to purge tumor cells
Herbert Kaizer,Robert K. Stuart,Ron Brookmeyer,William E. Beschorner,William E. Beschorner,Hayden G. Braine,Hayden G. Braine,William H. Burns,William H. Burns,D. J. Fuller,D. J. Fuller,M. Korbling,K. F. Mangan,K. F. Mangan,Rein Saral,Rein Saral +15 more
TL;DR: At the maximum safe concentration of 4HC (100 micrograms/mL), satisfactory hematologic recovery can be obtained, despite elimination of detectable hematopoietic progenitors.

Successful engraftment of blood derived normal hemopoietic stem cells in chronic myelogenous leukemia.
Martin Korbling,Philip J. Burke,Hayden G. Braine,G. J. Elfenbein,George W. Santos,Herbert Kaizer +5 more
TL;DR: The therapeutic usefulness of autologous blood-derived stem cells harvested in remission in restoring hemopoietic function after myeloablative treatment is confirmed.

4‐Hydroperoxyclophosphamide: a model for eliminating residual human tumour cells and T‐lymphocytes from the bone marrow graft
Martin Korbling,Allan D. Hess,Peter J. Tutschka,Herbert Kaizer,Michael Colvin,George W. Santos +5 more
TL;DR: The maximum concentration of 4‐HC that can be used for in vitro incubation without destroying the capacity of the marrow to effect complete haematological recovery as judged by residual CFUc content was investigated.

Cryopreserved autologous bone marrow transplantation in the treatment of selected pediatric malignancies: A preliminary report
Herbert Kaizer,Brigid G. Leventhal,Wharam,L. L. Munoz,G. J. Elfenbein,Tutschka Pj,Santos Gw +6 more
- 01 Mar 1979
TL;DR: The initial treatment results indicate that, in selected circumstances, tumor in otherwise refractory patients can be eliminated or partially controlled by a single intensive pulse of chemoradiotherapy with severe but acceptable extramedullary toxicity.
