A new technology of fashion show is opening the digital era and an imaginary fashion show is now arising as a new form of fashion show which allows one to enjoy a collection through the monitor without holding a real fashion show. Digital fashion show allows designer to create infinite ideas by articulating the designer`s concept through not only garments but also other factors. In this research, We will analyze cases which are mixtures of digital technology and fashion show and will suggest a new paradigm of fashion show by producing an imaginary fashion show which cannot be easily articulated in an ordinary real fashion show, articulated by garments created by digital technology and graphic effects. The program used for this study is `DC Suite 2.0` developed by Physan and Digital Clothing Center of Seoul National University, available for 2D pattern production and 3D simulation. In addition, in order to enhance representation of the visual effects, Maya`s Qualoth and V-ray program which could be compatible with `DC Suite` were used to make 3D digital fashion show.

【This study examined the trend and aesthetic value of image fashion of the 21st century through empirical case study with image media as fashion communication tool. This research is intended to provide the basic material for both better comprehension of image fashion as emotional medium in the modern fashion and more activated research on interactivity and communication in the fashion communication area by examining how fashion designers deliver their design philosophy, thought and vision via image fashion. For the research method, the theoretical study was realized about image media and fashion communication with focus on related literature and precedent research. Also, the empirical study was performed about image fashion covering 2005 through 2012 by the group of fashion film, fashion animation, and video look-book. Fashion image in the research was developed into various layouts that include the story based or non-story based creative images, many kinds of episode or behind-the-scenes story in the prep course of collection, designer's personal life or product world, or re-cutting course after collection. It also played a communicative role for public relation of new product ad, concept conveyance of seasonal collections, means as online collection to substitute for the existing offline collections, and better understandings of designer or fashion brand. Aesthetic values derived from case analysis of image fashion in the modern fashion of 21st century appeared in the form of trans-boundary as convergence art, fantasy in harmony with virtuality and reality, and interactivity among the humans, image media and fashions.】

Aesthetic values of image fashion as fashion communication tool in the 21st century

Intermedia is a term that refers to the convergence of different media. It has not only enabled the delivery of brand message but also developed interactive communication in a contemporary fashion show context. This study investigates the presentation methods of contemporary fashion shows affected by intermedia. We examined the research and theory related to intermedia and fashion shows by accessing articles since the 2000s concerning 252 shows by 30 designers that tended to demonstrate the use of intermedia. Our analysis highlighted four particular characteristics: “medium scalability” (the unity of art and fashion and the unity of life and fashion); “synesthetic flow” (the audience’s emotional immersion, represented by the actual performance and performances of the models); “participatory accessibility” (performance participation through action and instrumental support); and “immaterial symbolization” (an intuitive symbol that emphasizes both the direct outward appearance and the metaphorical symbolism so that the object is expressed in a figurative sense). From these results, we identified considerable synergy between the characteristics of intermedia and contemporary fashion shows. Therefore, it might be useful to conduct an experimental study on this area of research.

A Study on Characteristics of Storytelling by Fashion Film Categorization

The Modern Fashion Show in the Digital Image Age

ABSTRACT The fashion industry is one of the sectors most responsible for environmental pollution and waste generation. Zero-waste design either minimises or prevents waste generation by efficient use of resources for sustainable growth with environmental responsibility. This paper reviews traditional clothing, focusing on pants, go (袴), from the Joseon Dynasty, an era that emphasised ‘oneness with nature’. It analyses their zero-waste design aspects and formative features and, in order to examine their eco-friendliness and aesthetic value applies these to three fashion designs. Sapok pants, pungcha pants and dan-sokgot were selected as design motifs because of their unique structures, creative construction methods and zero-waste aspects. Results demonstrate that the zero-waste patternmaking and composition methods significantly lowered the fabric waste rate, by 0.6–6%. In addition, new design silhouettes are presented by applying unique structural principles and recombining traditional patterns, and these offer highly effective and creative alternate zero-waste fashion design methods.

세계가 점점 다원화되면서 현대는 융합 사회로의 진전이 빠르게 진행되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 포가 지닌 모더니티에 착안하여 미적 가치를 분석하고 창의적 융합 패션디자인 방법을 구축하여 이를 토대로 조선시대 포를 활용한 문화융합 기반의 패션디자인 작품을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구의 방법은 문헌 연구 및 시각자료 분석이며 본 연구에서 핵심적으로 논의되는 문화융합의 양상은 현대미술과 패션디 자인 사례분석으로 진행되었다. 연구의 내용은 문화융합의 사례를 살펴보고, 포의 미적 특성을 도출하여 작품 계획 및 결과 제시로 이루어졌다. 포의 미적 특성은 여유의 미, 단순미, 평면성, 비의 미, 담조의 미로 도출되었으며, 융합적 발상 구조에 조형 방법을 적용한 독창적인 문화융합 방법으로 제작한 작품의 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현대 패션의 글로벌문화로서 서구 패션의 입체적 구조와 로컬문화로서 한국 전 통의 평면적 구조를 결합시킴으로써 흥미로운 문화융합이 이루어질 수 있었다. 둘째, 실루엣과 형태, 재질 감, 색채 등을 통해 포의 미적 특성을 작품에 표현하였고, 포의 디테일로서 깃, 소매, 무, 고름, 주름, 트임 등을 코트와 원피스 드레스, 베스트 등에 활용한 결과 미적이며 기능적인 융합이 이루어졌다. 셋째, 기술적 요인인 서구식 봉제 기법은 융합에 있어서 매끄럽게 결합할 수 있도록 하였고 소재 기법인 주름은 실루엣 내부의 선적 표현과 재질적 표현을 풍부하게 하였으며, 반복된 사선형의 깨끼 바느질 선의 표현은 작품에 모더니티를 강조하는 미적, 기술적 요인이 되었다. 넷째, 서구 패션과 한국 전통 포의 구조, 형태, 디테일, 소재 기법, 소재 배치 등을 자유롭게 교차 사용함으로써 디자인의 개성이 표현되어 일관된 이미지를 창출 할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 새로운 의미의 문화융합이 요구되는 글로벌 환경 시대에 부응하는 차 별화된 패션디자인을 개발하는 방안 제시에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
