Applied Multivariate Techniques

This research investigated the protective effects of Ganoderma atrum polysaccharide (PSG-1) on acrylamide (AA) induced intestinal injury in rats. Our results showed that PSG-1 pretreatment effectively reduced the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), but increased the activity of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH) and the total glutathione (T-GSH), and significantly reduced oxidative stress in AA treated rats. Furthermore, PSG-1 pretreatment down-regulated pro-inflammatory cytokines i.e. interleukin 2 (IL-2), interleukin 1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and increased the amounts of anti-inflammatory cytokines i.e. interleukin 4 (IL-4) and interleukin 10 (IL-10), significantly reducing an inflammatory response in the intestines of rats. In AA induced intestinal injury, the tissue uric acid (UA) level and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and the serum level of D-lactic acid (D-lactate), nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) decreased significantly after treatment with PSG-1 and N-acetylcysteine (NAC). Histological observations of the small intestine confirmed the protective effects of different doses of PSG-1. These findings suggested that PSG-1 pretreatment could alleviate AA-induced oxidative stress, reduce inflammatory response, and inhibit AA absorption by protecting the intestinal barrier. Therefore, Ganoderma atrum polysaccharide has the potential to be a dietary supplement ingredient that provides protection against AA-induced gut injury.

Evaluation of the protective effects of Ganoderma atrum polysaccharide on acrylamide-induced injury in small intestine tissue of rats

Abstract This paper seeks to examine the influence of sustainable supply chain strategy (SSCS) on sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) by considering the mediating role of blockchain technology (BCT) adoption and the moderating role of Digital Transformation (DT) and sustainable supply chain practices (SSCP). Drawing upon the resource-based view theory, we empirically tested our model using a sample of 331 hotel and resort managers, and a quantitative approach was used. The results revealed that BCT adoption mediates the relationship between SSCS and SCA. They further explain that DT significantly moderates the relationship between the SSCS and BCT adoption, whereas SSCP significantly moderates the relationship between the BCT adoption and SCA. All research objectives are successfully obtained. As a result, firms must not only adopt sustainable strategies, but also adopt advanced technologies and transformative practices in order to maintain a competitive advantage in today’s dynamic market landscape. The findings of this study hold significant implications for both theory and practice, providing strategic insights for organizations seeking to improve their competitive positioning by embracing sustainable strategies and technologies. 

Sustainable supply chain, digital transformation, and blockchain technology adoption in the tourism sector

Introduction: Although many factors can affect the choice of destination in medical tourism, some factors are indispensable to medical tourists and medical tourism. The aim of this study was to analyze important factors affecting the selection of a destination by potential medical tourists. Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study, conducted in Turkey, included a population of 1700 people and a sample size of 317 people selected through purposive sampling. Values were evaluated with a 95% confidence interval and 0.05 standard error. A value of P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The medical tourism scale and a demographic information form were used in data collection. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and path analysis were used as statistical methods. Analyses were made using IBM SPSS-AMOS 25.0. Results: In this study, 56.5% of the participants were male and 43.5% were female. The factors affecting the selection of medical tourism destinations were determined to be, in order of importance, accessibility of health care service (X = 4.68 ± 1.073), level of security and safety (X = 4:57 ± 1.122), quality of health care service (X = 4:39 ± 1.129), level of hygiene (X = 4.16 ± 1.381), potential of savings-low cost (X = 4.07 ± 1.447), and tourism opportunities (X = 4.02 ± 1.540). Conclusion: It is thought that the current study will make a serious contribution to the field of medical tourism both in practice and in theory.

Factors Affecting Destination Choice in Medical Tourism

PurposeThis study aims to examine the use of cryptocurrencies and transactions in medical tourism and to discuss how this use provides advantages to healthcare institutions and states that provide medical tourism services.Design/methodology/approachThis study is a descriptive, cross-sectional, correlational and methodological quantitative research. Data were collected through a questionnaire with 555 potential medical tourists. Data were analyzed with Pearson correlation and hierarchical regression using STATA.FindingsThe correlation results showed a statistically significant high and positive correlation between the use of cryptocurrencies and transactions in medical tourism and the medical tourist's intention. The variables that contributed to the medical tourist's intention were monetary risk minimization, access-security and malpractice-civil trial in the highest order of contribution. Accordingly, the monetary risk minimization was the most contributing to the medical tourist's intention.Originality/valueThis study provides a piece of initial empirical evidence on the contribution of using cryptocurrencies and transactions in medical tourism.

Sağlık Haberleri Algısı: Bir Ölçek Geliştirme Çalışması

ABS TRACT Objective: The study was carried out to develop an application scale for complementary medicine applications in order to measure behaviors related to the reasons of application to complementary medicine applications in accordance for Turkish culture. Material and Methods: This study was carried out in June 2017-December 2017 with 387 patients who applied to a medical centre operating in Bursa province for complementary medicine applications. The data were obtained with a personal data sheet and a draft scale of application to 46-point complementary medical applications. For draft scale; descriptive factor analysis was performed for surface validity, expert evaluation, the correlation between the materials and Cronbach Alpha values for internal consistency/reliability, and structural validity. Results: Scope validity index of the scale as a result of the expert evaluation. 0.92. The correlation values between the scales are r=0.47-0.80, Cronbach Alpha=0.97. Kaiser-Meyer Olkin value of your scale=0.94, Bartlett test χ2=16566.489; p=0.000, and the 45-item single factor, accounting for 47% of the total variance explained. Conclusion: This scale is a reliable and valid measurement tool in determining the reasons for applying complementary medicine to individuals.

Causes for Applications to Complementary Medicine Practices: A Scale Development Study

Giris ve amac: Bu calismada, tiraji yuksek uc ulusal gazetenin saglikla ilgili haberlerinin icerigi analiz edilerek, Turkiye’de basinin saglik haberlerine yonelik algisina isik tutmaktadir. Gerec ve yontem: Bu calisma, 1 Ocak 2015 ile 31 Aralik 2017 tarihleri arasindaki uc yillik donemde, Turkiye’de basilan yuksek tirajli gazetelerde yer alan saglik haberlerinin sistematik olarak icerik analizinin yapildigi nitel bir arastirmadir. Arastirma kapsamina alinan gazetelerin internet sitelerindeki arama motorlarina “saglik haberleri” yazilarak arama yapilmistir. Calisma kapsaminda 3759 saglik haberi analiz edilmistir. Bu analizler sonucunda, gerek calismanin kapsami gerek ise belirlenen degiskenler dikkate alinarak sadece 721 haberin analize uygun oldugu gorulmustur. Bulgular: Incelen saglik haberlerinin sirasiyla; cocuk sagligi (% 68,5), halk sagligi (% 66,7), yetiskin sagligi  (% 60,2), onkoloji (% 59,4) ve koruyucu saglik hizmetleri (% 57) ile ilgili oldugu tespit edilmistir. Bulasici olma durumuna gore saglik haberleri kategorisi altinda incelenen saglik haberlerinin, en cok bulasici olmayan hastaliklar (%55,3), en az ise bulasici olan hastaliklar (%31,6) ile ilgili oldugu gorulmustur. Haberin kaynagina gore saglik haberleri kategorisi altinda incelenen saglik haberlerinin, en cok muhabir (%49,7) tarafindan servis edildigi, en az ise haberin yapildigi alandaki akademisyen tarafindan servis edildigi (%25,1) gorulmustur. Sonuc: Koruyucu saglik hizmetlerinde artisin olmasi ve diger faktorlerin etkisi bulasici olmayan hastaliklarin artmasi ile iliskili oldugu dusunulmektedir. Halkin saglik bilincinin artmis olmasi ve halkin kendini kotu saglik kosullarina karsi koruma istegi sonucu halkin ilgisinin koruyucu saglik hizmetlerine yonelmis olabilecegi dusunulmektedir. Son yillarda tip teknolojisinde yasanan gelismelerin butun dunyada oldugu gibi Turkiye’de de saglik haberlerinin gundemini olusturmasi tesadufi degil, kacinilmaz bir sonuctur.
