Factors affecting the folding of polypeptide chains in proteins
Harold A. Scheraga
- 01 Jan 1971
TL;DR: A discussion is given of theoretical and experimental studies which are being carried out to determine the factors which affect the folding of polypeptide chains in proteins.

Statistical thermodynamics of aqueous solutions II. Alkali halides at infinite dilution
J.H. Griffith,Harold A. Scheraga +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a statistical thermodynamic theory of water structure was used to compute the properties of aqueous solutions of the alkali halide salts at infinite dilution, and a three-region model was used, in which the first region consists of the water molecules next to each ion, the second region is a layer of water with a thickness of one water molecule, and the third layer is essentially bulk water.

Conformational analysis of cyclized dipeptide models for specific types of β-bends by two-dimensional nuclear Overhauser spectroscopy
TL;DR: The preferred conformations for the two compounds have been deduced by comparing proton-proton distances, derived from the 2D-NOE data and relaxation-time measurements, with the corresponding distances in several possible computed low-energy conformations.

Internal Hydrogen Bonding in Ribonuclease
Harold A. Scheraga,C.Y. Cha,J. Hermans,C.L. Schildkraut +3 more
- 01 Jan 1960
TL;DR: In this article, internal hydrogen bonding in ribonuclease shows a transition with the increasing temperature, and the pH-dependence of reversible denaturation provides a means of detecting hydrogen bonds among ionizable side-chain groups.
