The utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare has significant potential to revolutionize the delivery of medical services, particularly in the field of telemedicine. In this article, we investigate the capabilities of a specific deep learning model, a generative adversarial network (GAN), and explore its potential for enhancing the telemedicine approach to cancer pain management.We implemented a structured dataset comprising demographic and clinical variables from 226 patients and 489 telemedicine visits for cancer pain management. The deep learning model, specifically a conditional GAN, was employed to generate synthetic samples that closely resemble real individuals in terms of their characteristics. Subsequently, four machine learning (ML) algorithms were used to assess the variables associated with a higher number of remote visits.The generated dataset exhibits a distribution comparable to the reference dataset for all considered variables, including age, number of visits, tumor type, performance status, characteristics of metastasis, opioid dosage, and type of pain. Among the algorithms tested, random forest demonstrated the highest performance in predicting a higher number of remote visits, achieving an accuracy of 0.8 on the test data. The simulations based on ML indicated that individuals who are younger than 45 years old, and those experiencing breakthrough cancer pain, may require an increased number of telemedicine-based clinical evaluations.As the advancement of healthcare processes relies on scientific evidence, AI techniques such as GANs can play a vital role in bridging knowledge gaps and accelerating the integration of telemedicine into clinical practice. Utilizing an artificial intelligence framework (conditional generative adversarial network) to enhance telemedicine strategies for cancer pain management

In the Face Super-Resolution (FSR) task, it is important to precisely recover facial textures while maintaining facial contours for realistic high resolution faces. Although several CNN-based FSR methods have achieved great performance, they fail in restoring the facial contours due to the limitation of local convolutions. In contrast, Transformer-based methods which use self-attention as the basic component, are expert in modeling long-range dependencies between image patches. However, learning long-range dependencies often deteriorates facial textures due to the lack of locality. Therefore, a question is naturally raised: <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">how to effectively combine the superiority of CNN and Transformer for better reconstructing faces? To address this issue, we propose an Efficient Latent Style guided Transformer-CNN framework for FSR called <bold xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">ELSFace , which can sufficiently integrate the advantages of CNN and Transformer. The framework consists of a Feature Preparation Stage and a Feature Carving Stage. Basic facial contours and textures are generated in the Feature Preparation Stage, and separately guided by latent styles, so that facial details are better represented in reconstruction. CNN and Transformer streams in the Feature Carving Stage are used to individually restore facial textures and facial contours, respectively in a parallel recursive way. Considering the negligence of high-frequency features when learning the long-range dependencies, we design the High-Frequency Enhancement Block (HFEB) in the Transformer stream. The Sharp Loss is also proposed for better perceptual quality in optimization. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our ELSFace can achieve the best results among all metrics compared to the state-of-the-art CNN and Transformer-based methods on commonly used datasets and real-world tasks. Meanwhile, our ELSFace method has the least model parameters and running time. An Efficient Latent Style Guided Transformer-CNN Framework for Face Super-Resolution

To make the face hallucination process robust to impulse noise, a new outlier elimination based iterative neighbor representation (OEINR) algorithm is proposed in this work. The proposed algorithm computes the fidelity in the low-resolution (LR) space and the locality adaptor in the high-resolution (HR) space. It helps the proposed algorithm in obtaining better reconstruction weights and preserving individual characteristics of an input in the output faces. To compute the HR space-based locality adaptor, an HR face (named the assisting face) is generated by proposing a new objective function utilizing the merits of sparsity. Further, the iterative approach is applied to continuously improve the quality of the assisting face which succors in achieving better locality constraint, and hence better reconstruction weights. Moreover, outliers (impulse noise-contaminated pixels) are eliminated from weights calculation as well as the assisting face generation process which helps the proposed algorithm in minimizing the effect of impulse noise. The results obtained from the experiments conducted on public FEI, CAS+PEAL, CMU+MIT face databases, and surveillance videos and images exhibit the superiority of the proposed OEINR algorithm over existing comparative face hallucination methods. 

OEINR-RFH: Outlier elimination based iterative neighbor representation for robust face hallucination

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is non-invasive and crucial for clinical diagnosis, but it has long acquisition time and aliasing artifacts. Accelerated imaging techniques can effectively reduce the scanning time of MRI, thereby decreasing the anxiety and discomfort of patients. Vision Transformer (ViT) based methods have greatly improved MRI image reconstruction, but their computational complexity and memory requirements for the self-attention mechanism grow quadratically with image resolution, which limits their use for high resolution images. In addition, the current generative adversarial networks in MRI reconstruction are difficult to train stably. To address these problems, we propose a Local Vision Transformer (LVT) based adversarial Diffusion model (Diff-GAN) for accelerating MRI reconstruction. We employ a generative adversarial network (GAN) as the reverse diffusion model to enable large diffusion steps. In the forward diffusion module, we use a diffusion process to generate Gaussian mixture distribution noise, which mitigates the gradient vanishing issue in GAN training. This network leverages the LVT module with the local self-attention, which can capture high-quality local features and detailed information. We evaluate our method on four datasets: IXI, MICCAI 2013, MRNet and FastMRI, and demonstrate that Diff-GAN can outperform several state-of-the-art GAN-based methods for MRI reconstruction. 

DiffGAN: An adversarial diffusion model with local transformer for MRI reconstruction.

Deep convolutional neural networks have demonstrated significant performance improvements in face super-resolution tasks. However, many deep learning-based approaches tend to overlook the inherent structural information and feature correlation across different scales in face images, making the accurate recovery of face structure in low-resolution cases challenging. To address this, this paper proposes a method that fuses multi-scale features while preserving the facial structure. It introduces a novel multi-scale residual block (MSRB) to reconstruct key facial parts and structures from spatial and channel dimensions, and utilizes pyramid attention (PA) to exploit non-local self-similarity, improving the details of the reconstructed face. Feature Enhancement Modules (FEM) are employed in the upscale stage to refine and enhance current features using multi-scale features from previous stages. The experimental results on CelebA, Helen and LFW datasets provide evidence that our method achieves superior quantitative metrics compared to the baseline, the Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) outperforms the baseline by 0.282 dB, 0.343 dB, and 0.336 dB. Furthermore, our method demonstrates improved visual performance on two additional no-reference datasets, Widerface and Webface. 

Multi-Scale Feature Fusion and Structure-Preserving Network for Face Super-Resolution

Real-world face super-resolution (SR) is a highly ill-posed image restoration task. The fully-cycled Cycle-GAN architecture is widely employed to achieve promising performance on face SR, but is prone to produce artifacts upon challenging cases in real-world scenarios, since joint participation in the same degradation branch will impact final performance due to huge domain gap between real-world and synthetic LR ones obtained by generators. To better exploit the powerful generative capability of GAN for real-world face SR, in this paper, we establish two independent degradation branches in the forward and backward cycle-consistent reconstruction processes, respectively, while the two processes share the same restoration branch. Our Semi-Cycled Generative Adversarial Networks (SCGAN) is able to alleviate the adverse effects of the domain gap between the real-world LR face images and the synthetic LR ones, and to achieve accurate and robust face SR performance by the shared restoration branch regularized by both the forward and backward cycle-consistent learning processes. Experiments on two synthetic and two real-world datasets demonstrate that, our SCGAN outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on recovering the face structures/details and quantitative metrics for real-world face SR. Semi-Cycled Generative Adversarial Networks for Real-World Face Super-Resolution

Compressed sensing magnetic resonance imaging (CS-MRI) has made great progress in speeding up MRI imaging. The existing non-local self-similarity (NSS) prior based CS-MRI models mainly take similar image patches as the processing objects, this patch-level non-local sparse representation method can not make full use of the self-similarity among pixels in the image, so it can not recover the weak edge information in the undersampled MRI image well and there will still be some artifacts. In this paper, a pixel-level non-local method based compressed sensing undersampled MRI image reconstruction method is introduced. First, zero filling is performed on the undersampled k-space data to obtain a full-size 2D signal, and IFFT is performed to obtain a preliminary reconstructed MRI image. Block-matching and row-matching are successively performed on the reconstructed image in turn to obtain similar pixel groups, so as to establish a better sparse representation under the non-local self-similarity (NSS) prior. The separable Haar transform is performed on similar pixel groups, and the hard threshold of the transform coefficients and Wiener filtering can effectively remove the artifacts introduced in the undersampled reconstructed MRI images. The proposed pixel-level non-local iterative thinning model based on compressed sensing theory can ensure the removal of artifacts and better restore the details in the image. The qualitative and quantitative results under different undersampling modes and undersampling rates prove the advantages of the proposed method in subjective visual quality and objective evaluation (peak signal to noise ratio and structure similarity index). The performance of this method is not only superior to the existing traditional CS-MRI methods, but also competitive with the existing deep neural network (DNN) based models. PNCS: Pixel-Level Non-Local Method Based Compressed Sensing Undersampled MRI Image Reconstruction

Non-local method is a very effective method to eliminate Gaussian white noise in images, but the pavement image noise is usually non-Gaussian. In this paper, a non-local based method of denoising and enhancement of pavement crack images is proposed. First, morphological corrosion operator is used to convert the image noise of pavement into near-Gaussian noise; Second, using an improved (Block-match 3D Filtering) BM3D denoising and enhancement method to denoise and enhance pavement images; Finally, the remaining noise is removed by block cosine transform combined with gradient value. The experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve ideal pavement cracks detection results.
