A new quadratic boost converter is presented in this study. Compared with the conventional quadratic boost converter, the proposed converter has the feature of lower buffer capacitor voltage stress. This advantage is very valuable for high voltage and high-voltage gain applications. The proposed converter also employed only one active switch and two LC (inductor-capacitor) filters. Detailed analysis for its continuous current mode operation and discontinuous current mode operation both are presented. In addition, modelling for the proposed converter is also developed in this study. A prototype circuit is built and the experimental results confirm the feasibility and performance of the high step-up converter.

Quadratic boost converter with low buffer capacitor stress

A new zero-voltage-switched bidirectional dc-dc converter with coupled inductors is proposed in the paper. The proposed converter can operate with a steep conversion ratio, soft switching, a continuous inductor current, and fixed switching frequency. It can also operate with the switch stresses of a conventional pulsewidth-modulation-tapped/coupled-inductor converter regardless of the direction of power flow and without any voltage spikes across the switches during turn-OFF. These features are due to a very simple auxiliary circuit that is operational regardless of the direction of power flow and absorbs energy from the leakage inductance of the coupled inductors during switch turn-OFF. In the paper, the operation and design of the converter are discussed and its feasibility is confirmed with experimental results obtained from a prototype.

Analysis and Design of a Nonisolated Bidirectional ZVS-PWM DC–DC Converter With Coupled Inductors

This paper presents a non-isolated, high boost ratio hybrid transformer dc-dc converter with applications for low voltage renewable energy sources. The proposed converter utilizes a hybrid transformer to transfer the inductive and capacitive energy simultaneously, achieving a high boost ratio with a smaller size magnetic component. As a result of incorporating the resonant operation mode into the traditional high boost ratio PWM converter, the turn off loss of the switch is reduced, increasing the efficiency of the converter under all load conditions. The input current ripple is also reduced because of the linear-sinusoidal hybrid waveforms. The voltage stresses on the active switch and diodes are maintained at a low level and are independent of the changing input voltage over a wide range as a result of the resonant capacitor transferring energy to the output. The effectiveness of the proposed converter was experimentally verified using a 220 W prototype circuit. Utilizing an input voltage ranging from 20V to 45V and a load range of 30W to 220W, the experimental results show system of efficiencies greater than 96% with a peak efficiency of 97.4% at 35V input, 160W output. Because of high efficiency over wide output power range and the ability to operate with a wide variable input voltage, the proposed converter is an attractive design for alternative low dc voltage energy sources, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) modules.

High boost ratio hybrid transformer DC-DC converter for photovoltaic module applications

In this paper, an ultrahigh step-down converter is presented, which combines one coupled inductor and one energy-transferring capacitor. The corresponding voltage conversion ratio is much lower than that of the traditional synchronously rectified (SR) buck converter, and the proposed converter can achieve extremely low output voltage with an appropriate duty ratio. Moreover, there are three major merits in the proposed converter. One merit is that the voltage conversion ratio of the proposed converter is linear, thereby making control quite easy. Another merit is that if one of the switches fails or is abnormally controlled, a high voltage does not appear in the output terminal, so the output load can be protected. The other merit is that the proposed converter can be driven using the existing SR buck pulse-width modulation control integrated circuit. In this study, brief theoretical deductions and some experimental results are given to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed converter.

Ultrahigh Step-Down Converter

This paper presents a new wide-input-wide-output dc-dc converter, which is an integration of buck and boost converters via a tapped inductor. Coherent transition between step-down and step-up modes is achieved by a proper control scheme. This paper presents theoretical concepts and experimental results.

Relaxor property plays a key role in determining energy storage performance of dielectric capacitor. The usual method to improve relaxor property is to form substitutional solid solution. Here an unusually substitutional and interstitial hybrid perovskite solid solution 0.8(Ba0.85Ca0.15Zr0.1Ti0.9O3)‐0.2ZnO (BCZT:Zn) is designed, where one Zn2+ occupies B‐site and two Zn2+ share one A‐site of perovskite structure, and fabricated its epitaxial thin films. Compared to BCZT films, BCZT:Zn films have increased c/a ratio which leads to enhanced maximum polarization Pmax, wide band gap therefore high electrical breakdown strength EBDS, and enhanced relaxor degree thus suppressed remanent polarization Pr. As the results, dramatically improve energy storage property with the recoverable energy storage density Wrec of 75.9 J cm−3 and the energy storage efficiency η of 76.7% are obtained in BCZT:Zn films. This work not only provides a high performance relaxor ferroelectric material, but also impacts some new thinking to optimize die/ferro/piezoelectric properties by forming hybrid solid solutions.
