micropore structure of shale reservoir using different kinds of methods (Mercury Injection, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Adsorption-Desorption, Scanning Emission Microscope, CT) when the shale oil and gas began to be effectively explored and be taken into account (Loucks et al., 2009; Christopher et al., 2012; Curtis et al., 2012; Lu et al., 2013). Micro-sized or nano-scaled pores are commonly existed in the shale. Microscope sections reflecting the microstructure of the shale can be obtained through the CT imaging, and then the three dimensional images can be acquired by digit synthesis technology. It can not only show the internal structure and material composition of the samples, but also indicate the three dimensional pore structure. This paper aimed to analyze the micropore structure of shale reservoir using the nano-scaled CT by taking the argillaceous dolomite in the Chentuokou Sag of the Jianghan Basin as an example. Two dimensional data of the sample can be obtained by CT scanner. three dimensional data can be reconstructed through the three dimensional digital simulation by using 360-degree two dimensional image. The pore throat can be chosen from the binaryzation based on the gray value of the pore and matrix (Fig. 1). The three dimensional distribution characteristics can be acquired, which can effectively indicate the size, distribution and connectedness of the pore throat. The Fig. 2 shows that the configuration and the size of the pores exist some differences, and the spatial distribution of the pores is nonuniform (Fig. 2a, 2b). Some pores have better connectedness, while some are isolated and dispersed with bad connectedness (Fig. 2c). The distribution of the pore throat has some homogeneity, and the large throat always distributes in the part where pores are developed (Fig. 2d).

Quantitative Characterization of Micropore Structure of Shale Reservoir

The Williston Basin is one of the most successful basins in exploration and development of shale oil and gas in North America with abundant logging and geochemical data. A total of three chief source rocks are respectively developed in the Ordovician, the Devonian-Lower Carboniferous and the Cretaceous. In this paper, these three sets of source rocks are evaluated and compared separately from the abundance, type and maturity of organic matter, based on massive geochemical data. The results show that source rock in the Bakken formation has maximum abundance of organic matter with type II kerogen mainly in the oil generation stage of maturity and provides the excellent material basis for shale oil enrichment. But the former did not conduct in-depth research on the quantitative resource evaluation of the Upper and Lower Bakken Formation. After making statistic analysis of the geochemical index of hydrocarbon source rock layers in five areas such as Songliao, Hailaer, Jiyang, Lu et al.(2012) found that when source rocks was buried deep with high maturity, the oil content of the source rocks (S1 and chloroform bitumen \"A\") with increasing TOC showed significant three sections features, which can be classified into three levels in terms of enrichment degree, that is, dispersed resources, less efficient resources and enriched resources. * In this article, based on the investigation and research on the Ordovician, Devonian-Lower Carboniferous and Cretaceous source rocks system of the Williston Basin, we compare their hydrocarbon potential and try to establish evaluation criteria of shale oil for Bakken Formation. Finally, we evaluate organic matter abundance of the Bakken Shale on account of the improved ΔlogR model. And combined with the evaluation criteria, we discuss the shale oil resource potential of the Upper and Lower Bakken Formation. 2 Hydrocarbon Potential Evaluation of the Source Rocks in the Williston Basin
