The fast development of smart sensors and wearable devices has provided the opportunity to develop intelligent operator workspaces The resultant Human-Cyber-Physical Systems (H-CPS) integrate the operators into flexible and multi-purpose manufacturing processes The primary enabling factor of the resultant Operator 40 paradigm is the integration of advanced sensor and actuator technologies and communications solutions This work provides an extensive overview of these technologies and highlights that the design of future workplaces should be based on the concept of intelligent space

The dynamically developing trend of sustainable consumption is manifested, among others, by the growing interest in organic products on the part of consumers The aim of this article was to identify the behavior of Polish consumers in the market of organic products and to establish a link between their environmental awareness and willingness to buy organic products The authors hypothesized that there is a relationship between consumer awareness of the concept of sustainable consumption and the consumption of organic products Consumer awareness means making conscious choices based on the knowledge expressed in the attitudes and, sometimes, preferences of the food brand The research was conducted using a proprietary survey questionnaire A total of 1067 respondents participated A statistical analysis was performed by using Statistica 131 PL software, which includes descriptive statistics, the discriminant function analysis, and regression analysis Motives were identified that are of crucial importance to the consumer deciding to purchase organic products These include: beneficial health effects, contents of nutrients, no additional substances used in food production, taste, and others A statistical relationship was established between environmental awareness and the tendency to buy organic products Among the organic products, eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables, honey, cow’s milk and its derivatives, as well as cereal products, are the most preferred by consumers of both genders The proposed model, which outlines the relationship between environmental awareness and the tendency to buy organic products, includes the following variables: care for the environment and animal welfare, no harmful substances used in food production, low level of processing, short shelf life

The US has introduced a package of policies and specialized plans to reinvigorate its manufacturing industry by revolving around “reindustrialization.” It has put forward a national strategic plan for advanced manufacturing, aiming at strengthening advantages of its technology-intensive advanced manufacturing industry. Japan has a different focus. By releasing “New Robot Strategy,” Japan attempts to accelerate development of cooperative robots and unmanned plants to revolutionize the robot industry, cope with aggravation of Japanese social and economic issues, and enhance international competitiveness of Japan’s manufacturing industry. As to France, with “New Industrial France” promoted, layout optimization of the manufacturing industry is more important. After three decades of development, the Chinese electric vehicle industry became the world’s largest electric vehicle market in 2015. However, little is understood about how the Chinese electric vehicle industry, as a latecomer in this strategic newly emerged industry, could catch up with international incumbents. The purpose of this paper is to study how the windows of opportunity emerge and interactively influence the catch-up process of Chinese electric vehicle industry.,This paper conducted a case study to examine how Chinese electric vehicle latecomers use the windows of opportunity along with the development of a sectoral system of innovation to reduce the gaps.,The results indicate that windows of opportunity appeared in the introduction stage (2005) and the transition from the introduction stage to the growth stage (2015) because of the sectoral changes in technologies, demand, policies and the interaction among these factors. Domestic electric vehicle latecomers currently follow the catch-up pattern of duplication, creative imitation and innovation.,To capture the previous windows of opportunity, domestic electric vehicle latecomers rely on technology transfer through international joint ventures, government support and local advantages from cheap labor. To seize future windows of opportunity, apart from progressively accumulating innovation capabilities, it is also essential for managers to recognize, break through and extend the windows of opportunity by anticipating and monitoring the process of changes of the sectoral system.,This paper provides a fine-grained study on how latecomers in a new industry with emerging markets can seize windows of opportunities to catch up with the international leaders.
