This work, one more title under the label of “Premier Reference Source” from IGI Global, comprises 14 chapters. Chapter One – Introduction This chapter introduces the topic – What content to include? Which design should be chosen in order to communicate certain content? As the author states, “this books works to develop a coherent presentation of human-information interaction (HII)”. Moreover, the “goal of this book is to help design teams bring [a certain number of] considerations into the design process and to improve HII”. Although the reader is able to follow the general argument, sometimes an additional effort is needed to follow the details of the message since the writing style is not always straightforward and clear. The reader would also expect that in the introduction the author explains and justifies the structure of the book but this does not happen. Chapter Two – Information in the situation – This chapter concentrates on the issues of the information in the situation before it gets mentally processed. Usually an abstract is a summary of what the reader can find in the development of the text, whether it is an article, a book or a chapter. However, like in chapter one, reading the abstract is not enough to have a clear picture about the content of the whole chapter. Anyway, the first lines of the chapter state “This part of the book considers the information as it exists in the world. System Usability is becoming increasingly important in situations where assistance in the operation of a system is not readily available for the user. Traditionally, usability measures have consisted of post development testing in a usability lab. Usability practitioners are recognising the need for innovative procedures to incorporate usability in system development at an earlier stage than traditional testing allows and User Centred Design is an approach that meets this need. The objective of this chapter is to examine traditional usability testing and compare it to user centred design practices focusing on the resultant quality of the information system. An examination of literature concerning the two approaches is presented and comparisons made to a case study of a large Australian organisation utilising both measures. The experiences of developers and users within the organisation are presented, and the perceived quality of systems developed using both approaches is examined.

Usability: changes in the field: A look at the system quality aspect of changing usability practices

The term biometrics is derived from the Greek words: bio life and metrics to measure. "Biometric technologies" are defined as automated methods of verifying or recognizing the identity of a living person based on a physiological or behavioral characteristic. Several techniques and features were used over time to recognize human beings several years before the birth of Christ. Today, this research field has become very employed in many applications such as security applications, multimedia applications and banking applications. Also, many methods have been developed to strengthen the biometric accuracy and reduce the imposture errors by using several features such as face, speech, iris, finger vein, etc. From a security purpose and economic point of view, biometrics has brought a great benefit and has become an important tool for governments and institutions. However, citizens are expressing their thorough worry, which is due to the freedom limitations and loss of privacy. This paper briefly presents some new technologies that have recently been proposed in biometrics with their levels of reliability, and discusses the different social and ethic problems that may result from the abusive use of these technologies.
