This paper aims to appraise the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) with reference to various indicators like performance, structure, market size, share price index, etc. This study is motivated from the reform initiatives the Saudi Stock Exchange passes through in recent years because of the implantation of the nationwide strategy, Vision 2030 (Kumar, 2023). Using a published dataset, this study undertakes an appraisal mindset to highlight the performance of the market over 35 years’ time (from 1985 to 2019). The analysis follows various descriptive statistics reflecting market trends over the periods across selected parameters. The findings of the study imply that the market is improving in every dimension supporting the reform initiatives (Alsuhaibani et al., 2023). The incremental contribution of the current study is to inform policymakers about the response of the market towards various policy interventions. However, the study warrants careful attention of market regulators to observe the gradual changes so that it may receive policy attention as necessary. 

A regulatory appraisal of the Saudi Stock Exchange: A study based on secondary data

Financijski sustav ukupnost je nositelja ponude i potražnje novcanih sredstava, financijskih oblika - instrumenata u kojima su utjelovljena novcana potraživanja, raznolikih financijskih institucija i tokova kolanja novcanih sredstava koji, integrirani pravnim normama i regulacijom, omogucavaju trgovanje novcem i novcanim viskovima, određujuci pri tom cijene financijskim proizvodima - u prvom redu kamatne stope i ocekivanja u buducnosti. Svoje zadace financijski sustav ispunjava preko brojnih i razlicitih financijskih tržista na kojima se prema specificnim pravilima i uvjetima trguje ne samo bankovnim depozitima i kreditima vec i vrijednosnicama državnog duga ili zadužnicama poduzeca, dionicama, izvedenim - deriviranim financijskim oblicima, devizama i sl. Razvijeni financijski sustav nudi mogucnosti ne samo prijenosa viskova novcanog kapitala iz sektora u sektor vec nadoknađuje i unutarsektorske manjkove, omogucava stalno imovinskofinancijsko restrukturiranje prema promjenama uvjeta i poticajima s tržista i pruža sve siri spektar financijskih usluga. Određujuci cijene novca i kredita, dionica, prinose po zadužnicama i ostaloj financijskoj aktivi, financijski je sustav regulator kamatnih stopa i određuje ocekivanja o dohocima u buducnosti. Na taj nacin on utjece i na ostala kretanja u nacionalnoj ekonomiji, cime postaje jedan od najvažnijih, a zato i najreguliranijih dijelova ukupnog gospodarskog sustava.

Financial Institutions and Markets

This research is intended to identify the fundamentals of stock valuation and utilize them in the macro analysis and micro valuation of two major stock exchanges ‘Tadawul’ and ‘Dubai Financial Market’. These stock exchanges are compared in terms of their strengths and weaknesses according to significant economic indicators, alongside essential stock market determinants, all the while highlighting relevant relationships among them. Upon assessment, GDP has a strong influence on the valuation of the market and KSA’s GDP growth in the last two years has been slightly higher than UAE’s growth, affecting projected GDP growth rates. Tadawul performed better than DFM in P/E ratio indicating a higher willingness to invest in the Saudi stock exchange as well as a higher return expectation. DFM’s stocks are highly undervalued. It can be concluded that both stock exchanges are strong and competitive respectfully, and their potential for growth depends on the economic market that they originate from.
