Inhibition of harmful algae Phaeocystis globosa and Prorocentrum donghaiense by extracts of coastal invasive plant Spartina alterniflora.

Multiple sclerosis is a disease that damages the central nervous system. Current medical treatments can only prevent or relieve symptoms. The target of this study is to improve the detection efficiency and classification accuracy. We propose a method based on wavelet entropy and feedforward neural network trained by adaptive genetic algorithm that is implemented over 10 runs of 10-fold cross validation. In which the wavelet entropy serves as a feature extractor and the feedforward neural network is employed as a classifier. Adaptive genetic algorithm work as a training algorithm. We also use the three-level decomposition of db2 wavelet to make a frequency analysis. According to the experimental results, the global optimization capability of adaptive genetic algorithm is more powerful than ordinary genetic algorithm. Comparing to the HWT-LR method, the accuracy of our method detection is higher.

The tumour ecology of quiescence: niches across scales of complexity.

Objetivo: sintetizar as evidências científicas quanto às principais complicações daCOVID-19, ocorridas durante o período de convalescença, em pacientes adultos eidosos. Método: revisão integrativa, realizada entre março e maio de 2021 nas fontes:US National Library of Medicine National Institutes Database Search of Health,Literatura Latino Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde, Scopus, CumulativeIndex to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Web of Science, Excerpta MédicaDatabase. Utilizou-se o Rayyan na seleção e a análise de conteúdo. Resultados:identificaram-se 833 artigos, destes, nove compuseram a amostra. As complicações sãoneurológicas, respiratórias, psiquiátricas, cardiovasculares, nutricionais e musculares.Conclusão: as complicações mais preponderantes da COVID-19 são caracterizadaspelos acometimentos respiratórios e neurológicos, as quais implicam no aumento depacientes descompensados nos serviços de saúde para procedimentos eletivos,aumento dos gastos públicos e na incidência de parada cardíaca extra-hospitalar.

In Chaps. 3– 7, five major therapeutic approaches currently in use for cancer management are discussed. In this chapter, mathematical models of cancer dynamics under gene therapy, oncolytic virotherapy, nanocarrier-based therapy, and stem cell therapy are presented. Most of these therapeutic strategies are experimental and emerging and some are interrelated to the treatment methods that have been discussed in earlier chapters.

Miscellaneous Therapy Models

Background and objectives: Scrophularia megalantha is a native Iranian plant. In folk remedies, the species of the genus are used to treat stomach ulcers, goiter, eczema, cancer, psoriasis, and gall; however, there is not much research about S. megalantha. The current study aimed at evaluating the therapeutic effect of Scrophularia megalantha, a medicinal plant of Iran, on myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein 35-55 (MOG)-induced experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) as a model of multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods: The ethanol 80% extract of S. megalantha aerial parts was prepared by maceration method. The extract (100 mg/kg/day) was administered to C57BL/6 mice immunized with MOG (35-55) for 7 days, 3 weeks after EAE induction. The mice brain was removed and Hematoxylin-Eosin (H&E) was used to stain the sections. Moreover, spleen mononuclear cells from extract-treated or non-treated of EAE model mice were stimulated with MOG peptide and then culture supernatants were evaluated for IFN-ɣ, IL-17 and IL-10 cytokines using Enzyme-Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ELISA) kits. Results: Based on the obtained results, treatment with Scrophularia megalantha areal part extract significantly reduced inflammatory cells infiltration in the central nervous system (CNS) and also the disease severity in the experimental model of MS. Also, findings of the current study indicated that treatment with this medicinal plant in EAE mice model significantly decreased inflammatory cytokines including IFN-ɣ and IL-17 and vice versa significantly increased IL-10 as anti-inflammatory cytokine compared with non-treated of EAE model mice group. Conclusion: Scrophularia megalantha attenuated EAE by suppressing IFN-ɣ and IL-17 production and also increasing IL-10 cytokine. These findings suggested that this medicinal plant has the anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects.

Immunomodulatory and Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Scrophularia megalantha Ethanol Extract on an Experimental Model of Multiple Sclerosis

Objective: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most malignant and aggressive type of glioma, associated with a high rate of mortality. The transforming growth factor-β receptor II (TGFβ RII) is involved in glioma initiation and progression. On the other hand, TGFβ RII silencing is critical to the inhibition of GBM. Therefore, we aimed to determine the effects of specific TGFβ RII siRNA on the survival of U-373MG cells. Methods: TGFβ RII siRNA was transfected, and qRT-PCR was performed to examine TGFβ RII mRNA expression. Cell survival was determined using colorimetric MTT assay, and platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) level was measured in the culture supernatant using ELISA assay. Result: Our findings indicated that specific siRNAs could dose-dependently suppress TGFβ RII mRNA expression after 48 hours. In addition, treatment with TGFβ RII siRNA significantly reduced tumor cell survival and decreased the amount of PDGF-BB protein in the cell culture supernatant. Conclusion: Our results suggest that TGFβ RII silencing can be a promising complementary treatment for glioma.

Gene Silencing of TGFβRII Can Inhibit Glioblastoma Cell Growth

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been associated with a wide range of clinical symptoms Objectives: The present study aims to investigate the neurological manifestations among patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Rouhani Hospital in Babol Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional survey conducted in March and April 2020 on patients admitted to Rouhani Hospital in Babol with COVID-19 A number of 230 medical records were selected randomly from a list The data were collected using the demographic characteristics questionnaire and a checklist for the neurological symptoms Results: Among the 230 patients with COVID-19 (mean [SD] age, 59 85 [16 22] years;138 men [60%]), 127 (56%) patients had at least one neurologic symptom The most common symptoms of the central nervous system disorder were headache (34%), dizziness (25%), and impaired consciousness (20%), and the most prevalent symptoms of the peripheral nervous system disorder were taste impairment (17%) and smell impairment (16%) The occurrence of transient ischemic attack (TIA) in women was significantly higher than in men (P = 0 02) Moreover, the incidence of dizziness, impaired consciousness, ataxia, cerebrovascular accident (CVA), anorexia, and smell impairment had a significant relationship with age (P < 0 05) Conclusions: The neurological manifestations are prevalent and substantial among patients with COVID-19 Therefore, it is sug-gested that the healthcare workers take these symptoms seriously, especially in the outbreak of COVID-19, and take the pertinent preventive and protective measures © 2020, Author(s)
