Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Piston Ring Friction
H. Xu,Myoungjin Kim,D. Dardal,Michael D. Bryant,Ronald D. Matthews,Tom Kiehne +5 more
- 01 Jan 2005
TL;DR: In this paper, a quasi-Rayleigh narrow-channel gas flow model is proposed by considering the temperature gradient along radial direction of piston assembly, and the instantaneous indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) method was adopted to measure the piston friction during motoring condition.

Friction predictions for piston ring-cylinder liner lubrication
H. Xu,Michael D. Bryant,Ronald D. Matthews,T. M. Kiehne,B. D. Steenwyk,Nathan Bolander,Farshid Sadeghi +6 more
- 01 Jan 2004
TL;DR: In this article, two piston ring and cylinder liner lubrication models were presented and compared with the experimental results from a corresponding bench test. But the results were limited to the top compression ring simulation.

Theoretical Analysis of Piston Ring Frictional Loss in an Innovative Rotating Liner Internal Combustion Engine
H. Xu,Myoungjin Kim,Michael D. Bryant,Ronald D. Matthews,Tom Kiehne +4 more
- 01 Jan 2005
TL;DR: In this paper, the average Reynolds equation is adopted to obtain the hydrodynamic component of restoring force against the cylinder lineline surface, and the dry or boundary lubricated component is derived from Greenwood-Tripp model.
