: One of the most important areas of market research is on consumer behaviour and attitudes regarding various aspects of sustainable consumption. Consumer behaviour is understood as activities related to the entire consumption cycle of products from various sectors, which allow the consumer to function and achieve personal goals. They, at the same time, also they allow to achieve satisfaction and well-being, taking short- and long-term effects as well as individual and social consequences into account (Antonides & van Raaij, 1999). Within the context of the cited definition, a survey of household rubbish may be very interesting and useful. Such research is not of a declarative nature, but is based on products consumed actually. They can provide extensive information on consumption trends, including, for example, the amount and type of products consumed or food waste. Another example of market research in the context of sustainable consumption is research on products harmful to health, e.g. cigarettes. The main goal of the chapter is to present 2 unusual examples of market research conducted by various entities: journalists and a research agency. Therefore, the structure of the chapter covers two examples:1. Garbology as an example of market research in SD—how to learn more about consumers and consumption. 2.

Sustainability and Sustainable Development

This paper presents an analysis of the literature concerning the impact of corporate sustainability on corporate financial performance. The relationship between corporate sustainable practices and financial performance has received growing attention in research, yet a consensus remains elusive. This paper identifies developing trends and the issues that hinder conclusive consensus on that relationship. We used content analysis to examine the literature and establish the current state of research. A total of 132 papers from top-tier journals are shortlisted. We find that 78% of publications report a positive relationship between corporate sustainability and financial performance. Variations in research methodology and measurement of variables lead to the divergent views on the relationship. Furthermore, literature is slowly replacing total sustainability with narrower corporate social responsibility (CSR), which is dominated by the social dimension of sustainability, while encompassing little to nothing of environmental and economic dimensions. Studies from developing countries remain scarce. More research is needed to facilitate convergence in the understanding of the relationship between corporate sustainable practices and financial performance.

Currently, one of the biggest sectors in the market is the fashion industry. This is due not only to the high volume of sales and quick succession of trends, but also to the number of people and companies involved with these products from their conception to distribution. This high production has a significant impact on the environment. The textile industry is considered one of the main causes of the world’s industrial pollution, since several stages of textile processing are potentially causing environmental degradation on various levels. Thus, sustainability and all of its dimensions can be a tool for changing this scenario in which the fashion industry is a major polluter. In order to understand this phenomenon, we conducted a field study with companies from the textile and clothing supply chain to identify the perceptions and sustainability strategies within these companies The data collected reveal a positive scenario: businesses that are aware of the need for change and are looking for sustainable modes of production, as well as actions already being implemented that are changing this situation and serving as an example to companies in other areas.

The dimensions of sustainability: concepts and strategies in the textile and clothing supply chain in Brazil.

The article explores the impact of normative institutional factors on the development of sustainability reporting. The vast majority of research in the scientific literature focuses on mandatory institutional factors, i.e. how public institutions and market regulators affect sustainability reporting. Meanwhile, there is lack of empirical data for the impact of normative institutional factors. The effect of normative factors in this paper is based on the role of non-governmental organizations (NGO) and institutional theory. The case of Global Compact Local Network in the developing country was examined. The research results revealed that in the absence of regulated factors, companies were not active with regard to social disclosures; they presented non-systemized social information of a descriptive nature. Only 10% of sustainability reports were prepared using the GRI methodology. None of the reports were assured by third parties. Keywords—Institutional theory, normative, sustainability reporting.

Impact of Normative Institutional Factors on Sustainability Reporting

The increasing awareness of individuals about the environmental and social impact of the corporations’ activities has made it important for corporations to share their reports about corporate sustainability with the target audiences. The purpose of this study is to determine, how much they are committed to sustainability reports they publish by content analysis method. It presents findings from an analysis of 100 company’websites in Turkey and sustainability reports and discusses the findings within this conceptual context. The findings of the research showed that the majority of the companies that were examined did not share their sustainability-oriented efforts on their websites. Most of the companies that shared their reports try to make their commitments towards sustainability concrete with at least one initiative. It was determined that the least mentioned element in all the themes in the reports was about the results of performance measurement. As a result, companies make a commitment and support it in an initiative, while paying less attention to sharing its results for performance measures and being less willing to do so.
