This paper proposes a new methodology for studying neologisms in the translation and retranslation of the science fiction novel Altered Carbon (Richard Morgan, 2001), its adaptation as a TV series by Netflix (2018) and the reception of literary and audiovisual works by audiences. The main goals of this descriptive and empirical study are, on the one hand, to analyse the techniques employed to translate the neologisms in both the book and the series and, on the other hand, to identify the extent to which audiences understand and accept these new words.

(Re)translation and Reception of Neologisms in Science Fiction: A Methodological Proposal

After outlining some of Belinda Maia’s main ideas of how to use comparable corpora in translation teaching and learning, we present a new translator training tool: Ensinador Paralelo. It is an extension of Ensinador, originally developed for use with monolingual corpora (Simoes & Santos 2011). This new tool produces exercises based on translations (previously done by pro- fessional translators or students, as we will see).

In order to make the text more interesting to Belinda Maia we also study critically four translations of Lewis Carroll’s children books.

This work deals with an old question in the Portuguese-Spanish interfaces: the problem of false cognates. Indeed, the most celebrated studies published so far-among others:  Lado (1973), Leiva (1994), Burgueno Miranda (1998), Durao (2002;2004; 2005) - almost always focused on this topic from communicative or interactionist, that is, the authors made an effort to explain what were the consequences, in speech, of the existence of this phenomenon, especially incident in the interlanguage of the speakers of the respective opposing languages. In this way, we propose a new vision of this phenomenon, cognitively characterizing the interlanguage process in the mind of the speaker, discussing the widespread concept of portunol, differentiating three different fields of application and, finally, we offer, following our already anticipated proposals in other works (Miranda Poza, 2013; 2015), the explanation of the pair "rato (Spanish)/ rato (Portuguese)" from the historical perspective, a forgotten approach in the analysis of this type of linguistic facts.

Resumo: O objetivo deste texto e relatar uma experiencia de trabalho com um corpus colaborativo, desenvolvida nos ultimos 10 anos (2010-2020) com alunos de diversas turmas de graduacao, pos-graduacao e alunos de Iniciacao Cientifica na Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (ja parcialmente descrita por Fromm, 2013, e Fromm e Yamamoto, 2013). O trabalho parte da metodologia de elaboracao do corpus (incluindo seu historico) como um passo para um tipo de pesquisa especifica (terminografica), passa por uma analise para indicar e solucionar problemas de compilacao e termina na sua adequacao e padronizacao para reuso. O resultado e um corpus robusto, bem balanceado, bilingue (ingles/portugues) e que podera ser usado em inumeras outras pesquisas na area de Linguistica. Abstract: This text describes a work experience with a collaborative corpus, developed during the last 10 years (2010-2020) with students in several undergraduate and graduate classes and students working on scientific undergraduate research projects at Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (already partially described by Fromm, 2013, and Fromm and Yamamoto, 2013). The work starts from the corpus elaboration methodology (including its history) as a step towards a specific type of research (terminographic), goes through an analysis to point out and solve compilation problems and ends in its adequacy and standardization for reuse. The result is a robust, well-balanced, bilingual (English/Portuguese) corpus that can be used in numerous other studies in the area of Linguistics. Este artigo aborda as relacoes identitarias dos Apinaye, habitantes do estado do Tocantins. Promove um estudo dos antroponimos, considerados como importantes elementos da identidade dos povos indigenas. Note-se que a lingua faz a vez de traco identitario de um povo com vistas a conferir-lhe um espaco simbolico de identificacao, como no caso dos nomes proprios de pessoas que carregam tantas simbologias e cosmologias. Objetiva compreender o processo de formacao e designacao dos antroponimos para esse povo. A metodologia adotada consistiu na revisao bibliografica de autores que refletem sobre a tematica e principalmente pela discussao das relacoes entre sujeito, lingua e identidade. Os resultados alcancados remetem a valorizacao da lingua materna, por meio dos conhecimentos da Antroponimia, para a compreensao da identidade e da cultura dos povos indigenas.

Resumo : O presente trabalho consiste na descricao e comparacao de dois softwares de analise lexical, o WordSmith Tools (WST) e o Sketch Engine (SE). O corpus de estudo selecionado para a realizacao da analise comparativa entre os programas denomina-se LexTest, e composto por artigos, dissertacoes, resenhas e teses da area da Lexicologia, escritos em lingua portuguesa, e apresenta 552.903 tokens . Os aspectos analisados no WST e no SE sao: interface, configuracao de linguas, upload de corpus , numero de tokens e types , etiquetagem do corpus , lista de palavras, lista de palavras-chave; acesso as linhas de concordância, entre outros. A partir das analises comparativas, foi possivel concluir que o WST e o SE sao eficazes no que se propoem, uma vez que, por exemplo, processam palavras-chave, permitem configurar a lingua conforme o corpus de estudo e calculam o numero de tokens de um corpus . Entretanto, dependendo do objetivo da pesquisa, um desses softwares pode ser mais apropriado que o outro. A escolha pela utilizacao de um deles e de responsabilidade do pesquisador, que podera consultar o quadro comparativo entre o WST e o SE apresentado no final deste artigo para fundamentar a sua preferencia. Abstract : The present work consists of the description and comparison of two lexical analysis software, WordSmith Tools (WST) and Sketch Engine (SE). The study corpus selected for the comparative analysis between the programs is called LexTest which is composed of articles, dissertations, reviews and theses about Lexicology. These texts are written in Portuguese, and the corpus has 552,903 tokens. The aspects analyzed in the WST and in the SE are: interface, language settings, corpus upload, number of tokens and types, corpus tagging, word list, keyword list, access to concordance lines, and so on. Based on the comparative analyzes, it was possible to conclude that the WST and the SE are effective in their purpose, because, for example, they process the keywords and allow configuring the language according to the study corpus and calculate the number of tokens; however, depending on the purpose of the research, one of these programs may be more appropriate than the other. The choice of one of them will be responsibility of the researcher, who may consult the comparative table between the WST and the SE, presented at the end of this paper to substantiate his or her preference.
