Colorimetric metal ion sensors – A comprehensive review of the years 2011–2016

With singlet oxygen (1O2) as the active agent, photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a promising technique for the treatment of various tumors and cancers. But it is hampered by the poor selectivity of most traditional photosensitizers (PS). In this review, we present a summary of controllable PDT implemented by regulating singlet oxygen efficiency. Herein, various controllable PDT strategies based on different initiating conditions (such as pH, light, H2O2 and so on) have been summarized and introduced. More importantly, the action mechanisms of controllable PDT strategies, such as photoinduced electron transfer (PET), fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) and some physical/chemical means (e.g. captivity and release), are described as a key point in the article. This review provide a general overview of designing novel PS or strategies for effective and controllable PDT.

Colorimetric and ratiometric fluorescent probe for cations gain very well attention by the chemist, biologist and environmentalist. Metals has two sides, first is biolgical active for living creature and toxic nature for the ecosystem. From last three decades the scientists are contiously trying to find out the best solution for the detection of cations at micro as well as nanomolar levels. In the present review we discussed the colorimetric and ratiometric fluorescent probe synthesized by the authors in almost half decade.

A Mini Review on Organic Chemosensors for Cation Recognition (2013-19)

A novel dual-channel chemosensor for CN- using asymmetric double-azine derivatives in aqueous media and its application in bitter almond.

For the first time an easy-to-make receptor 2-chloro-3-(thiazol-2-ylamino)naphthalene-1,4-dione (R1) for highly selective sensing of Hg(II) ions in aqueous solution and in the solid state through the formation of an Hg–C bond was developed. The Hg(II) ion sensing properties of R1 were investigated using UV-Vis, fluorescence and 1H & 13C NMR spectral studies. The results indicated that the receptor selectively senses Hg(II) ions via the formation of a 1 : 1 complex of moderate stability (Ka = 3.5 × 104 M−1). The NMR spectral studies indicated that complexation between R1 and Hg(II) occurs through the formation of an Hg–C bond (after deprotonation), which was confirmed by a single crystal XRD analysis of the product. When Hg(II) was added to a solution of R1 in DMF–water (1 : 9 v/v), a dramatic color change from pale brown to blue was observed, while many common cations and anions did not interfere with the recognition process. The detection limit was 0.3 μM, which is much lower than the permissible limit of Hg(II) in drinking water (0.001 mg L−1) as recommended by the WHO. The simple grinding of R1 with Hg(II) in the solid state also exhibited the same dramatic colour change which is easily detectable visually.

Highly selective colorimetric sensing of Hg(II) ions in aqueous medium and in the solid state via formation of a novel M–C bond

In this study, we developed a novel chemosensor (ATS) that contains the 5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-furan group and α-naphthylamine for the dual-channel sensing of mercury ions. Under attack from mercury ions, the probe undergoes a blocked process; moreover, it broke the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) state of the chemosensor, which can be confirmed by 1H NMR, IR and MS studies. We designed this probe to produce a significant change in the color and fluorescence intensity that can achieve naked eye recognition. The experimental results proved that the 5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-furan group is a very good chromophore. In addition, the ICT state inhibited the fluorescence of naphthylamine. The fluorescent intensity changed significantly when naphthylamine was released. Moreover, high selectivity experiments revealed that the fluorescent sensor is specific to mercury ions even with interference by high concentrations of other metal ions. The test strips based on ATS were fabricated, which could act as a convenient and efficient mercury ion test kit.
