1 Thrombophilia: disorders predisposing to venous thromboembolism
Graham F. Pineo,Russell D. Hull +1 more
TL;DR: The challenge for the future is to discover some of these as yet unknown factors and to determine the most appropriate methods for the prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism in susceptible individuals with thrombophilia.

Economic impact of enoxaparin versus unfractionated heparin for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in patients with acute ischemic stroke: a hospital perspective of the PREVAIL trial.
TL;DR: The higher drug cost of enoxaparin was offset by the reduction in clinical events as compared to the use of UFH for VTE prophylaxis after an AIS, particularly in patients with severe stroke.
Low molecular weight heparin treatment of venous thromboembolism
Russell D. Hull,Graham F. Pineo +1 more
TL;DR: These findings show a lack of an association between the subtherapeutic APTT response and recurrent VTE and suggest that the duration of initial heparin therapy can be shortened from 10 to 14 days to approximately 5 days, and evidence supporting the use of an upper limit of the therapeutic range is weak.

Hirudin and hirudin analogues as new anticoagulant agents.
Graham F. Pineo,Russell D. Hull +1 more
TL;DR: The recent data derived from clinical trials supporting the use of hirudin and hirulog in the prevention and treatment of thrombotic diseases are reviewed here.
