Blue and green light emission: New directions and perspectives of applications of one-dimensional photonic band gap structures
Mario Bertolotti,Mark J. Bloemer,Charles M. Bowden,Marco Centini,Giuseppe D'Aguanno,Michael Scalora,Concita Sibilia +6 more
- 14 Jul 2000
TL;DR: In this article, nonlinear quadratic interactions near the band edge of a finite length photonic band gap structure are studied and a strong enhancement of the nonlinear response is found due to the essential role played by the electromagnetic density of modes and phase matching conditions.
Collinear terahertz generation in photonic crystal structures via difference-frequency generation
Nadia Mattiucci,Giuseppe D'Aguanno,Michael Scalora,Mark J. Bloemer,Neset Akozbek,Joseph W. Haus +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a three-dimensional model was developed to study the properties of terahertz emission from a one-dimensional, chi(2)-doped photonic crystal.
Switching intense laser pulses guided by Kerr-effect-modified modes of a hollow-core photonic-crystal fiber.
D. A. Zheltikova,Michael Scalora,Aleksei M. Zheltikov,Mark J. Bloemer,Mikhail N. Shneider,Giuseppe D'Aguanno,Richard B. Miles +6 more
TL;DR: A Kerr-nonlinearity-induced profile of the refractive index in the hollow core of a photonic-crystal fiber changes the spectrum of propagation constants of air-guided modes, effectively shifting the passbands in fiber transmission, controlled by the photonic band gaps (PBGs) of the cladding.
Linear and Nonlinear Optical Properties of Quasi-Periodic One-Dimensional Structures
Concita Sibilia,Mario Bertolotti,Marco Centini,Giuseppe D'Aguanno,Michael Scalora,Mark J. Bloemer,Charles M. Bowden +6 more
- 22 Jan 2002
TL;DR: In this paper, the optical properties of self-similar optical multilayer structures are first discussed for low input intensities, thus allowing the neglect of nonlinear effects, and the structures under consideration are obtained by alternating two dielectric layers of different refractive indexes following a fractal set.

Phase independent nonlinear amplification regime in one-dimensional photonic bandgaps : Special issue on photonic bandgaps
TL;DR: In this paper, a simple way to study parametric amplification in finite layered structures with an optical nonlinear quadratic response is theoretically analyzed, where it is possible to write equations that are formally equivalent to those of a bulk medium and analyze the effective behavior of the structure.
