Use of two-component Weibull mixtures in the analysis of wind speed in the Eastern Mediterranean
TL;DR: In this article, the suitability of two Weibull distributions for the description of wind power density was evaluated using the fit standard error (RMSE) tests, which had been carried out between each one of the theoretical distributions and the corresponding experimental cumulative frequencies of the nine selected sites.

Modelling the thermal performance of earth-to-air heat exchangers
TL;DR: In this article, a complete numerical model for the prediction of thermal performance of the earth-to-air heat exchangers is presented and validated against an extensive set of experimental data and it is found accurate.

On the use of bioclimatic architecture principles in order to improve thermal comfort conditions in outdoor spaces
TL;DR: The process for designing and applying several techniques based on bioclimatic architecture criteria and on passive cooling and energy conservation principles in order to improve the thermal comfort conditions in an outdoor space location located in the Great Athens area is described.

Estimating the ecological footprint of the heat island effect over Athens, Greece
TL;DR: In this article, the authors estimate the direct and indirect environmental impact of the urban heat island effect in Athens, Greece, through the estimation of the additional ecological footprint caused by the urban Heat island phenomenon over the city, and the results show that the maximum potential ecological footprint, provided that all buildings are air conditioned, is almost 110,000 hectares.

Determination of places in the great Athens area where the heat island effect is observed
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors defined places in the major Athens area where the heat island effect occurs and examined several important climatic parameters in combination with the application of various statistical tests.
