In order to explore the effect of product appearance characteristic familiarity on product recognition, both EEG experiment and questionnaire evaluation are used in this research. The objective feedback of user is obtained through the EEG experiment and the subjective opinions are collected through the questionnaires. The EEG experiment is combined with the classical learning-recognition paradigm, and the old-new effect of recognition experiment is used as a metric of recognition degree. Experimental results show that the difference of characteristic familiarity does have a significant effect on product recognition. The conclusion can be used in innovation design.

The effect of product characteristic familiarity on product recognition

Based on the method of kansei engineering and cognitive psychology, to analyze the applications and features of product identity system in the equipment manufacturing industry, focus on systematic method and process on product identity strategy. According to the user-centered design methods, establishment of six types of systems such as modeling feature recognition systems, color feature recognition systems and so on, establish the standard of product identity systems, and demonstrate the method through the design case of Wuzhong.

본 논문은 패션 기업의 경쟁력 강화를 위한 전략적 도구로 브랜드의 디자인 감성 차별화를 위한 프로덕트 아이덴티티의 역할을 재조명하고 효과적인 실행을 위한 프로덕트 아이덴티티 시스템(Product Identity System; PIS) 모델을 제안하고자 한다. 연구의 방법으로는 문헌조사와 사례연구를 병행하였으며 이를 통해서 프로덕트 아이덴티티 요소별 특징과 각 요소 간의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 특히 사례 연구의 대상과 범위는 연구의 객관성을 확보하기 위해 글로벌 브랜드 가치평가 기관인 인터브랜드(Interbrand)에서 발표한 최근 3년간 각 브랜드 가치를 기준으로 선정하였다. 사례 분석을 토대로 제안한 PIS 모델은 첫째, 제품의 조형적 측면을 넘어서 디자인의 감성적 측면을 고려하여 궁극적으로 브랜드의 감성적 차별화를 향상시킬 수 있도록 설계되었다. 둘째, PIS를 통한 전략적 핵심 상품의 구축은 브랜드의 전문성과 대표성을 유지할 수 있도록 프로덕트 아이덴티티의 요소들을 유기적으로 결합시킴으로써 제품 자체의 전달력을 가지도록 설계되었다. 셋째, 프로덕트 아이덴티티는 브랜드 아이덴티티의 내포 개념이며 브랜드 이미지를 형성하는 강력한 도구로서 기능적 역할을 수행할 수 있도록 설계되었다. 넷째, PIS는 제품의 시각적 요소에만 국한된 것이 아니라 브랜드의 풍부한 연상이미지를 부여할 수 있도록 계획되었다. 선행 연구를 살펴보면 아직 프로덕트 아이덴티티의 개념이 제대로 정립되지 못했고, 직접적인 시스템 개발 역시 미약하다는 것을 알 수 있다. 본 연구는 대상에 대한 분석과 정리를 통해 향후 이 분야의 기초 연구 자료를 마련하고자 한 것으로, 시스템 제시에 초점을 맞춘 결과 실증적으로 검증하는 데까지 미치지 못한 한계가 있다. 향후 PIS 모델의 정교화 작업을 위한 지속적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 본다.
