Evaluating E-learning systems success : an empirical study

E-learning is a web-based learning ecosystem for the dissemination of information, communication, and knowledge for education and training. Understanding the impact of e-learning on society, as well as its benefits, is important to link e-learning systems to their success drivers. The aim of this study is to find the determinants of user perceived satisfaction, use, and individual impact of e-learning. This study proposes a theoretical model integrating theories of information systems' satisfaction and success in the e-learning systems. The model was empirically validated in higher education institutions and university centers in Brazil through a quantitative method of structural equation modeling. Collaboration quality, information quality, and user perceived satisfaction explain e-learning use. The drivers of user perceived satisfaction are information quality, system quality, instructor attitude toward e-learning, diversity in assessment, and learner perceived interaction with others. System quality, use, and user perceived satisfaction explain individual impact.

Examining the role of trust and quality dimensions in the actual usage of mobile banking services: An empirical investigation

With the growing recognition of the customer's role in service creation and delivery, there is an increased impetus on building customer-centric organizations. Digital technologies play a key role in such organizations. Prior research studying digital business strategies has largely focused on building production-side competencies and there has been little focus on customer-side digital business strategies to leverage these technologies. We propose a theory to understand the effectiveness of a customer-side digital business strategy focused on localized dynamics--here, a firm's customer service units (CSUs). Specifically, we use a capabilities perspective to propose digital design as an antecedent to two customer service capabilities--namely, customer orientation capability and customer response capability--across a firm's CSUs. These two capabilities will help a firm to locally sense and respond to customer needs, respectively. Information quality from the digital design of the CSU is proposed as the antecedent to the two capabilities. Proposed capability-building dynamics are tested using data collected from multiple respondents across 170 branches of a large bank. Findings suggest that the impacts of information quality in capability-building are contingent on the local process characteristics. We offer implications for a firm's customer-side digital business strategy and present new areas for future examination of such strategies.

Leveraging digital technologies: how information quality leads to localized capabilities and customer service performance

Understanding the impact of m-banking on individual performance

Employee portals are utilized by many companies to improve companies' information exchange, communication, and employee collaboration, as well as to better support their business processes. Owing to limited IT budgets and the need to justify investments in employee portals, assessing the benefits of these is an important field in research and practice. Thus, the purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of employee portal success. We introduce a theoretical model for this that is based on the DeLone and McLean IS Success Model. Furthermore, we develop hypotheses regarding the associations between different models' success dimensions and test them using more than 10,000 employees' responses collected in a survey of 22 companies. Our results indicate that besides the factors contributing to IS success in general, other success dimensions - like the quality of the collaboration and process support - have to be considered when aiming for a successful employee portal. The study's findings make it possible for practitioners to understand the levers with which to improve their employee portals. By empirically validating a comprehensive success model for employee portals, the study's results advance theoretical development in the area of collaboration-centered systems and present a basis for further research in this field.

An empirical investigation of employee portal success

(2009b), which appeared in issue 4/2009 in the section BISE – State of the Art, and subsequent comments by the authors. The authors of the critical statement primarily focus on the question of which benefits result from the working results of researchers in business and information systems engineering (BISE) for economy and society. This fundamental issue certainly requires further discussion within the BISE community, which we intend to trigger by the presentation of the following two positions. Moderne Geschaftsprozesse werden uberwiegend durch geschaftsrelevante Inhalte und Informationen, d. h. insbesondere durch Dokumente, getrieben und gesteuert. Somit wird das effiziente Management von Informationen und Wissen immer mehr zur Grundlage fur nachhaltige Wettbewerbsvorteile sowie zum Schlusselfaktor fur die organisationale Adaptabilitat. Informationen gewinnen in Unternehmen seit vielen Jahrzehnten an Bedeutung. Der Perspektivenwechsel von einer nach innen gerichteten, produktions- bzw. angebotsorientierten hin zu einer auf den Markt bzw. den Kunden fokussierten Sicht („market-based view“) impliziert die Notwendigkeit, grose Informationsmengen effizient zu verarbeiten und zu verwalten. Die zur marktbasierten Sicht komplementare ressourcenbasierte Sicht des Unternehmens („resource-based view“) unterstreicht dies und geht noch daruber hinaus, indem die in einem Unternehmen vorhandenen Inhalte und Informationen als Schlusselressource angesehen werden, die einen signifikanten Anteil an der Etablierung eines nachhaltigen Wettbewerbsvorteils hat.
