TL;DR: The genome of the pea aphid shows remarkable levels of gene duplication and equally remarkable gene absences that shed light on aspects of aphid biology, most especially its symbiosis with Buchnera.
Genomic insight into the amino acid relations of the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum, with its symbiotic bacterium Buchnera aphidicola
Alex C.C. Wilson,Peter D. Ashton,Federica Calevro,Hubert Charles,Stefano Colella,Gérard Febvay,Georg Jander,P. F. Kushlan,Sandy J. Macdonald,J. F. Schwartz,Gavin H. Thomas,Angela E. Douglas +11 more
TL;DR: The pea aphid genome includes 66 genes contributing to amino acid biosynthesis and 93 genes to acid degradation, which is consistent with other insects, including threonine dehydratase and branched chain amino acid aminotransferase.

Influence of the amino acid balance on the improvement of an artificial diet for a biotype of Acyrthosiphon pisum (Homoptera: Aphididae)
TL;DR: A green biotype of the pea aphid, A. pisum, from Lusignan (France), showed very poor performance on the standard Akey and Beck diet, but significant improvement occurred after reduction of the osmotic pressure of the diet and modification of the amino acid component, according to the results of carcass analysis.

Toxicity of lectins and processing of ingested proteins in the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum
TL;DR: In this article, the authors tested thirty lectins against the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) (Homoptera, Aphididae: Macrosiphini) by scoring mortality and growth inhibition over the whole nymphal period (7 days at 20°C).

The effect of cold acclimation and deacclimation on cold tolerance, trehalose and free amino acid levels in Sitophilus granarius and Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Coleoptera)
Paul G. Fields,Francis Fleurat-Lessard,Lucien Lavenseau,Gérard Febvay,Lionel Peypelut,Lionel Peypelut,Guy Bonnot +6 more
TL;DR: High levels of trehalose and proline were correlated withcold tolerance, as seen in several other insects, but correlation does not prove that these compounds are responsible for cold tolerance, and further tests are outlined that could demonstrate a causal relationship between tre Halose and Proline and cold tolerance.
