TL;DR: In this paper, the aluminum chloride induced carbonylation, Ritter reaction, and cyanation of adamantane in dichloromethane (chloroform) are reported, and the mechanism of the reactions is discussed involving initialy hydride abstraction from adamantane by Cl δ+ CH 2 Cl→ δ + AlCl 3 or Cl 2 δ+, CHCl → δ−AlCl 3 complexes and subsequent reaction of the 1-adamantyl cation with carbon monoxide, nitriles or cyanotrimethylsilane
