Immune regulation in the aging retina.
TL;DR: The impact of aging on retinal immune regulation and the connection between homeostatic control ofretinal immune privilege and para‐inflammation under aging conditions is explored and a view that may explain why aging puts the retina at risk of developing degenerative diseases is presented.

S100B Up-Regulates Macrophage Production of IL1β and CCL22 and Influences Severity of Retinal Inflammation
Jennifer Niven,Joseph I. Hoare,Debbie McGowan,Gayathri Devarajan,Shigeyoshi Itohara,Monique Gannagé,Peter Teismann,Isabel Joan Crane +7 more
TL;DR: S100B augments the inflammatory response in uveoretinitis and this is likely to be, at least in part, via a direct effect on macrophages.
Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cell Apoptosis is Influenced by a Combination of Macrophages and Soluble Mediators Present in Age-Related Macular Degeneration
TL;DR: Findings indicate that microglia and macrophages are capable of enhancing the degeneration of RPE, which are crucial in AMD development, however this is dependent on the microenvironment present as AMD develops.

Regulation of T-lymphocyte CCL3 and CCL4 production by retinal pigment epithelial cells.
TL;DR: RPE cells are able to down-regulate high levels of CCL3 and CCL4 production by T lymphocytes by using the soluble mediators sCD54 and PGE2, dampen down the cascade effect and recruitment of more inflammatory cells, protecting the retina from an excessive immune response.
