Possible Role of Interleukin-1β in Type 2 Diabetes Onset and Implications for Anti-inflammatory Therapy Strategies
TL;DR: A model of interleukin-1β dynamics in order to explain principles of disease onset is developed and it is suggested that treatments targeting glucose bear the potential of stopping progression from pre-diabetes to overt type 2 diabetes.

Nitric oxide controls proliferation of Leishmania major by inhibiting the recruitment of permissive host cells.
Pauline Formaglio,Mohamad Alabdullah,Anastasios Siokis,Juliane Handschuh,Ina Sauerland,Yan Fu,Anna Krone,Patricia Gintschel,Juliane Stettin,Sandrina Heyde,Juliane Mohr,Lars Philipsen,Anja Schröder,Philippe Robert,Gang Zhao,Sahamoddin Khailaie,Anne Dudeck,Jessica Bertrand,Gerald F. Späth,Sascha Kahlfuß,Philippe Bousso,Burkhart Schraven,Jochen Huehn,Sebastian Binder,Michael Meyer-Hermann,Andreas Müller +25 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that low Leishmania major proliferation results not from direct NO impact on the pathogen but from reduced availability of proliferation-permissive host cells.

A mathematical model of the impact of insulin secretion dynamics on selective hepatic insulin resistance.
TL;DR: A sequential model of postprandial hepatic control of glucose and lipid by insulin is proposed, according to which delayed aPKC switch-off contributes to selective hepatic insulin resistance, which is a long-standing paradox in the field.
Frequency-selective response of FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron networks via changing random edges.
TL;DR: A network of FitzHugh-Nagumo neurons is considered; each neuron is subjected to a subthreshold periodic signal and independent Gaussian white noise and it is found that the firing pattern of the mean field changes from an internal-scale dominant pattern to an external- scale dominant one when more and more edges are added into the network.

Comparison and regulation of neuronal synchronization for various STDP rules.
Yanhua Ruan,Gang Zhao +1 more
TL;DR: It is shown that synchronization windows for all STDP rules cannot be enhanced compared to constant connection under the same model and the influence of learning parameters on synchronization window is explored to find optimal parameters that lead to the widest window.
