A touch sensor has a first and a second set of tracks (3a, 3b) arranged on a substrate (1). The tracks have a small width of less than 10 micrometers that renders them invisible to the naked eye. At the same time, neighboring parallel tracks are located at less than 200 micrometers from each other for macroscopic uniformity. The two sets of tracks (3 a, 3 b) may include interrupted tracks to reduce mutual capacitance and to increase sensitivity. The tracks (3 a, 3b) can be meandering for optical anisotropy. The touch sensor can be manufactured using electrohydrodynamic ejection printing.

The electrohydrodynamic print head (1) comprises a nozzle layer (4) with a plurality of nozzles (8). A feed layer (6) is arranged above nozzle layer (4). It contains feed ducts (20a, 20b, 52) for feeding ink to the nozzles (8) as well as electrically conducting feed lines (26, 46, 50a, 50b) for feeding voltages to electrodes (40, 14, 32) at nozzles (8). The feed layer (6) comprises one or more dielectric sublayers (6a- 6f), which is/are structured to form the feed ducts (20a, 20b, 52) and feed lines (26, 46, 50a, 50b). Some of the sublayers (6a - 6f) contain vertical via sections (20a) and others contain horizontal interconnect sections (20b). The feed layer (6) is structured for customizing the print head (1) easily.

The electrohydrodynamic print head comprises a plurality of nozzles (10). Each nozzle (10) has a central nozzle duct (12) laterally surrounded by a nozzle wall (20). The top end of the nozzle duct (12) communicates with an ink feed duct (14). An annular trench (22) laterally surrounds the nozzle (10). An extraction electrode (26) is located around the axis (18) of the nozzle (10) at a level below it, and a shaping electrode (28) located laterally outside the nozzle duct (12). The shaping electrode is arranged within a ring having a horizontal width (Wl) of less than the vertical distance (H2) between said shaping electrode (28) and the extraction electrode (26) or it is located above the trench (22). Both these measures allow to operate the device with high voltages with reduced risk of electrical breakdown.

A security element (1) for a security document comprises a plurality of spots (2) having, at least in a primary direction, extensions (x) of less than 20 μm, in particular of less than 10 μm. The extension (y) along a secondary direction, which is perpendicular to the primary direction, can be larger. The security element (1) is scanned by means of a device having a larger resolution along the primary direction than along the secondary direction.
