Magnetic rotation and antimagnetic rotation are exotic rotational phenomena observed in weakly deformed or near-spherical nuclei, which are respectively interpreted in terms of the shears mechanism and two shearslike mechanism. Since their observations, magnetic rotation and antimagnetic rotation phenomena have been mainly investigated in the framework of tilted axis cranking based on the pairing plus quadrupole model. For the last decades, the covariant density functional theory and its extension have been proved to be successful in describing series of nuclear ground-states and excited states properties, including the binding energies, radii, single-particle spectra, resonance states, halo phenomena, magnetic moments, magnetic rotation, low-lying excitations, shape phase transitions, collective rotation and vibrations, etc. This review will mainly focus on the tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theory and its application for the magnetic rotation and antimagnetic rotation phenomena.

Progress on tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theory for nuclear magnetic and antimagnetic rotation

Recent progress regarding multiple chiral doublet bands ( \begin{document}$ {\rm{M}}\chi{\rm{D}}$\end{document} ) is reviewed from the experimental and theoretical perspectives. In particular, the experimental findings, theoretical predictions, selection rule for electromagnetic transitions, \begin{document}$ {\rm{M}}\chi{\rm{D}}$\end{document} with octupole correlations, and some related topics are highlighted. Based on these discussions, it is of great scientific interest to search for the other \begin{document}$ {\rm{M}}\chi{\rm{D}}$\end{document} , as well as possible chiral wobblers, chirality-parity quartet bands, and chirality-pseudospin triplet (or quartet) bands in the nuclear system.

Recent progress in multiple chiral doublet bands

The lifetimes for the states of magnetic dipole band in 106Ag have been measured using the Doppler-shift attenuation method via the reaction of 100Mo(11B, 5n)106Ag at a beam energy of 60 MeV. The reduced transition strengths of the magnetic dipole band, the B(M1)/B(E2) ratios together with the signature of the level energy as a function of angular momentum for the positive parity states of 106Ag show that a drastic change of excitation mode, that is, from electric rotation to magnetic rotation, occurs within one unit of spin at around Iπ = 12+. Theoretical calculations based on the triaxial projected shell model consistently reproduce the experimental data and provide an explanation on the nature of observed phenomena such that the dynamical drift of the rotational axis suddenly from the principal axis to the tilted one, along the positive parity bands of 106Ag.

Single-particle structures, high-spin isomers, and a strongly coupled band in odd-odd Sb-120


 The magnetic and antimagnetic rotational bands are systematically investigated in the present work. Up to now, 253 magnetic rotational bands and 40 antimagnetic rotational bands have been reported in 123 nuclei and 29 nuclei, respectively. The experimental data for these bands are collected and collated, including the level energy, γ-ray energies, spin I, magnetic dipole reduced transition probability B(M1), electric quadrupole reduced transition probability B(E2), B(M1)/B(E2), and J (2)/B(E2), etc. In addition, following the presentation of the kinematic moment of inertia J (1), dynamic moment of inertia J (2), and I versus rotational frequency ω, as well as energy staggering parameter S(I), B(M1), B(E2), B(M1)/B(E2), and J (2)/B(E2) versus I in A ∼ 60, 80, 110, 140, and 190 mass regions, a discussion is provided in detail. Based on the systematic studies, the main features of magnetic and antimagnetic rotational bands are summarized. Furthermore, some nuclei are also predicted to be candidates for magnetic or antimagnetic rotation.

Systematic study of magnetic and antimagnetic rotational bands

Excited states of ${}^{116}$Sb were investigated using in-beam $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy techniques with the ${}^{114}$Cd(${}^{7}$Li, $5n$) reaction. About 25 new states and 35 new transitions were added into the level scheme of ${}^{116}$Sb. The previously known two rotational bands based on the $\ensuremath{\pi}{g}_{9/2}^{}{}^{\ensuremath{-}1}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}\ensuremath{\nu}{h}_{11/2}$ and $\ensuremath{\pi}{g}_{9/2}^{}{}^{\ensuremath{-}1}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}\ensuremath{\nu}{d}_{5/2}$ configurations have been extended up to (16)${}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and (13)${}^{+}$ states, respectively. A new $\ensuremath{\Delta}I=1$ band was identified, and interpreted in terms of the triaxial particle rotor model calculations.
