Structure of the monosialyl oligosaccharides derived from salivary gland mucin glycoproteins of the Chinese swiftlet (genus Collocalia). Characterization of novel types of extended core structure, Gal beta(1----3)[GlcNAc beta(1----6)] GalNAc alpha(1----3)GalNAc(-ol), and of chain termination, [Gal alpha(1----4)]0-1[Gal beta(1----4)]2GlcNAc beta(1----.).

TL;DR: In this article, the structures of the monosialyl oligosaccharides were established by combination of sugar and methylation analysis, fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry, and electron impact-mass spectrometer after permethylation and 1H NMR spectroscopy (at 500 MHz).

A novel type of carbohydrate structure present in hen ovomucoid.
José Paz Parente,Jean-Michel Wieruszeski,G. Strecker,J. Montreuil,Bernard Fournet,H van Halbeek,Lambertus Dorland,J.F.G. Vliegenthart +7 more
TL;DR: Hen ovomucoid is characterized by a high degree of microheterogeneity of its carbohydrate moieties, as was recently demonstrated by hydrazinolysis in combination with high performance liquid chromatography, which resulted in 17 oligosaccharide-alditol fractions.

Characterization of anN-Acetylglucosamine-6-O-sulfotransferase from Human Respiratory Mucosa Active on Mucin Carbohydrate Chains
Sophie Degroote,Jean-Marc Lo-Guidice,G. Strecker,Marie-Paule Ducourouble,Philippe Roussel,Geneviève Lamblin +5 more
TL;DR: It is pointed out that GlcNAc-6-O-sulfotransferase must act before β1–4 galactosylation in mucin-type oligosaccharide biosynthesis.

Etude chimique des mannosides urinaires excrétés au cours de la mannosidose
TL;DR: Mannose-rich oligosaccharides isolated from urines of 5 patients with mannosidosis are related to the glycans of «oligomannosidic type present in numerous glycoproteins» and reinforce the hypothesis that catabolism of glycans N-glycosidically linked to the protein moiety begins by the action of a β-endo-N-acetylglucosaminidase.

The structure of a trisialyl di-antennary N-type glycopeptide obtained from rat plasma hemopexin
TL;DR: The structures of the glycans in the Concanavalin A non-binding fractions were determined by a combination of methylation analysis and 500-MHz1H-NMR spectroscopy and the occurrence of the NeuAcα2-8NeuAc disaccharide element was demonstrated in a minor part of the carbohydrate moiety of rat hemopexin.
