Accelerators for hadrontherapy: From Lawrence cyclotrons to linacs
U. Amaldi,R. Bonomi,Saverio Braccini,M. Crescenti,A. Degiovanni,M. Garlasche,Adriano Garonna,Guillaume Magrin,Claudio Mellace,Peter Pearce,G. Pitta,P. Puggioni,E. Rosso,S. Verdu Andres,Rolf Wegner,M. Weiss,R. Zennaro +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the accelerators used and planned for this purpose are reviewed starting from the cyclotrons used in the thirties, and the latest developments concern a superconducting cyclotron for carbon ion therapy, fast-cycling high frequency linacs and single room proton therapy facilities.

Cyclinacs: Fast-Cycling Accelerators for Hadrontherapy
U. Amaldi,Saverio Braccini,A. Citterio,K.R. Crandall,M. Crescenti,M. Dominietto,A. Giuliacci,Giulio Magrin,C. Mellace,Peter Pearce,G. Pitta,E. Rosso,M. Weiss,R. Zennaro +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an innovative fast-cycling accelerator complex is proposed to exploit at best the properties of accelerated ion beams for hadrontherapy, which can be used also for other valuable medical and research purposes, followed by a high gradient linear accelerator capable to produce ion beams optimized for the irradiation of solid tumours with the most modern techniques.
